Hillary Clinton was on Good Day Philadelphia this morning to dance with mascots to whine about Barack Obama whining about the awful debate. Again, the news media continues to focus on the issues.

St. Joe’s Concert A ‘Fiasco’

Saint Joseph’s had its spring concert last Thursday, and the headline sums it all up: Fiasco at the Fieldhouse!

Apparently, one of the opening acts for Lupe Fiasco was Trey Songz, and his set was first delayed due to a problem with his DJ’s equipment. And then Songz went and just walked off the stage when some punk St. Joe’s kids starting shooting rubber bands at him, shouting “St. Joe’s sucks” and the like. He said he feared for his safety.

According to Sean Morntahen,’11, before Songz left the stage for a second time, he asked who in the audience was throwing things at him, and a male student raised his hand. This was when Trey left the stage, went to his bodyguard, and then the body guard escorted both parties outside. Chris Mayer, ‘11, was standing near the stage barrier and saw the bodyguard grab the male’s arm. He could hear arguing and yelling while the three were outside the Fieldhouse from Trey’s microphone.

Both witnesses did not see any punches thrown or anything suggesting a physical altercation. A freshman female sociology major told The Hawk that Songz started arguing with his manager and that it was his manager and the bodyguard who held him back from approaching the male student.

Also be sure to read this student’s column where he complains about the concert and then reveals he didn’t have to pay for his ticket.

Brave Editor Comes Out Against F-Bomb

Former Phillies pitcher Mitch Williams is now banned from his daughter’s basketball games for saying “fuck” during a game.

Overreaction? Sure. But overreaction usually comes with a nice dose of moral superiority:

The apology isn’t doing much for Ron Martin, who oversees referees as the Camden Board 34 independent assigner. He said yesterday that he called St. Mary of the Lakes to say that although the season ended last night, if Williams “is going to appear at any games next year, we will not officiate them. If he enters the gym in the middle of a game, we will stop officiating.” Martin is executive editor of the Burlington County Times. “A lot of people challenge calls, but when someone hits on one of the magic words, we can’t tolerate that stuff,” he said.

Oh, wah, wah, wah. Yeah, don’t let him see his kid play because he said “fuck.” You showed ‘em, Ron! Plus, the editor doth protest too much. I can only assume the officiating was really terrible.

What the hell kind of league is this, anyway? Kids cursed all the time when I played on JV basketball in sixth grade; I can only assume it’s greater now, with what all the kids influenced by idiots like me that cursing is cool. And it is, kids! It’s just as cool as smoking cigarettes but without any of the terrible side effects like death.

‘Bulletin’ Says Screw It, Let’s Just Run Articles About How We Love Republicans

In a front-page story — with a faux-banner headline, kinda — in The Evening Bulletin, the newspaper that complains about media bias talks about the great white hope:

Political talk fills the papers and airwaves in the City of Brotherly Love these days.

Most of the yowling and yammering at the moment has to do with the growing confidence the Democrats are feeling in the statewide elections coming in November.

While the bright hope lies with Republican Senator Rick Santorum rapidly closing the once double-digit lead of his Democratic challenger, Pennsylvania Treasurer Bob Casey, down to low single digits, most of the other Republican incumbents in this area are finding themselves in the fight of their political lives.

Indeed! There is this nice little chestnut here, though:

David C. Thomsen is the Republican Chairman in the 15th Ward. This past year he assisted in an effort to get Temple graduate David Corbett on the ballot to run against Frank Oliver in the 195th legislative district. The campaign came close to getting 300 signatures, but wasn’t near enough.

“Third parties get three or four months to gather signatures. We only get three weeks.” Thomsen complained.

Yeah, those third parties have it so easy. Well, okay, maybe when the Republicans support them it’s a little easier.
