Lives Of Local TV Reporters More Dramatic Than ‘Gossip Girl’

Do you think Dan Gross has a corkboard with all the “stars” of Philadelphia media’s faces on it? You know where I’m going here: He can now cross off another one, because Lori Delgado has quit NBC 10. Who’s Lori Delgado, you’re saying? She did mornings, sometimes filled in on 10!, got sued by Vince DeMentri, etc. Yes, it’s like Dan Gross is shooting them down one-by-one. Alycia? Ping. Larry? Sorry, buddy. Ping.

DeMentri, a former fake ATF agent, filed a precursor to a lawsuit recently against NBC 10, Delgado and “a male security guard identified only as ‘Don.’” Wow, you can just sue “some guy named Don,” huh? Man, if somebody ever tried to sue Fred from Comcast Sportsnet, heads would roll.

The Inquirer’s Michael Klein explains the backstory:

NBC had been investigating alleged incidents at the station. In one, Delgado’s personal property (a hair dryer, curling iron and handbag) was moved from her desk drawer to another spot under her desk. In another, a deep scratch was found on her Lexus, parked in the NBC10 lot in Bala Cynwyd. DeMentri, 44, had been questioned by NBC management. He was fired in August.

I’ve always thought WPVI’s policy of not letting its reporters talk to the media was stupid; it treated its employees like they were high schoolers. As we can tell from recent events over the past year, though, the local news business is pretty much just like high school. Maybe it’s a wise policy.

NBC 10 Harasses Allen Iverson At Foot Locker

Yesterday, as Vince DeMentri was doing his holiday shopping — or, so the story on NBC 10 goes — he ran into none other than Allen Iverson, shopping for shoes in what appears to be a store somewhere on City Ave. (Or possibly the Roosevelt Mall.)

DeMentri meets him as he exits the store and quickly gets in a question: “Hey, Allen, don’t the fans deserve to hear something from you?” (He does this, oddly enough, in the most accusatory tone possbile.) Allen looks like he’s fumbling for an answer before coming up with: “I love them.”

Oh, here, watch for yourself.

Okay, I really only have one question after watching that video, somehow: What does Allen Iverson need to buy at Foot Locker?

Breaking: Vince DeMentri A Total Pimp In High School

For those of you as obsessed with the local media as I am — which I hope to God isn’t (m)any of you — NBC 10 has put up a 50-picture slideshow of its anchors’ and reporters’ childhood photographs. In it, we learn that Vince DeMentri wore a kickin’ outfit to his prom:

He’s not a player, he just crushes a lot.

How NBC 10 Is Like Fifth Grade

During the recent floods, NBC 10 reporter Vince DeMentri stood waist-deep in water while doing a report. This angered Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz, who informed DeMentri that you shouldn’t be in water any higher than your ankles, ‘cuz you could drown or something.

Here’s what happened next, courtesy of the Inquirer’s Michael Klein:

NBC10’s Vince DeMentri landed in hot water over deep water.

During flooding last Thursday, NBC10 warned its newsies to stay out of the water during their stand-ups, lest they tempt danger and send a wrong message to viewers.

DeMentri, though, did his hit in Trenton from a waist-deep flood, prompting an on-air scolding from weatherguy Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz.

Talk around the station says DeMentri returned to 10 Monument Rd., entered the weather studio, and began bellowing at the much-smaller Schwartz. Doug Kammerer, a strapping fellow, supposedly inserted himself between the two; not so much as Schwartz’s bow tie was ruffled. Management, never happy about office confrontations, called in DeMentri.

We know Doug Kammerer did the right thing there, but, oh, come on. That would have been an awesome fight.

Update: We almost forgot. The best part of the whole report was when they threw it back to Tim Lake (eventually), and he said something like “Glenn — I mean Hurricane — I’m over where Vince was and can see they he has gotten to higher ground and he’s safe.”
