Tom Knox, the candidate who’s positioned himself as an outsider, as a guy who’s going to end the no-bid contracts, the insider deals, reform the democratic machine and make his mother proud has corraled his team who he wants on City Council.

It includes three current councilpeople — one who is responsible for the bill which would require tour guides to be licensed, another who had is responsible for the the bill boycotting Don Imus, and another who is Jannie Fucking Blackwell — as well as a plagiarist, the son of a former mayor and, of course, the son of the current mayor.

The release, from yesterday:

PHILADELPHIA – [Today], Democratic mayoral candidate Tom Knox will announce his recommended ballot for Philadelphia City Council. All candidates supported by Knox are committed to putting an end to pay-to-play politics in Philadelphia.

Invited to attend: Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, Councilman Juan Ramos, Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown, Vern Anastasio, Cindy Bass, Bill Green, Cecil Hankins, Matt McClure, Matt Ruben, Sharif Street

Indeed! I can’t wait for Mayor Sharif Street in 2014.

Hello. Salut. I’m Running For City Council.

I don’t really know if any of these young City Council upstarts have a shot to defeat any of the incumbents, but they sure are making entertaining YouTube ads.

Oddly enough, there used to be quality constituent services at 714 South Street, but then they went out and shut down Club Kama Sutra!

There’s also this ad from Damon Roberts, where his wife says he’s running for Council “because the children need something to do.” Now all we need to do is get a candidate to do the Numa Numa dance.

Update, 2:06 p.m.: Comment from charlesdog12 on Young Philly Politics:

Who filmed these clips on Youtube? They are really good. You can see that someone is a fan of the French New Wave, with jump cuts and the whole nine yards.

French New Wave! It’s that good.

Vern Anastasio: Superhero For Council

With the advent of broadband Internet and the invention of YouTube and other easy video sharing services, now it’s not just the richest candidates who can make video advertisements for their political campaigns. Sure, so far it’s only three mayoral candidates — Brady, Knox and Evans — who have ads on television, but there’s nothing to stop other mayoral candidates or City Council hopefuls from putting their videos online.

And, thus, here is Vern Anastasio’s initial campaign ad, which shows that he’s not only a candidate for City Council, he has superpowers as well.

Damn. You know, I’m all for better city services, but I think Anastasio should be playing up his abilities of teleportation and super-speed instead. I’m not quite sure how these would help our city, but, I ‘unno, I think they’d impress voters enough to give Vern their vote.

And somewhere in South Philadelphia, Frank DiCicco’s hardwood floors tremble… [Amen]
