Newspapers Just Eat Up ‘Street Justice’

Oh, you never let us down, Philly.com. Thanks for the pressing question of whether vigilante justice is warranted in 21st-century America!

You may remember Upper Darby as the suburb where a man who stabbed his son was hailed as a hero because his son did drugs. Well, our newest tale from the land with a giant “69″ dotting its landscape is the stabbing death of a 48-year-old woman. The family of the slain woman went to where the alleged murderer was hiding and beat him up.

Hmm. Definitely understandable, almost certainly justifiable, but probably not legal. Cops intervened, but because they were treated nicely no charges will be filed. Yes, yes, really:

Despite the injuries to the officers, who are now on leave, Chitwood said that he doesn’t expect to press charges against anyone involved in the assault because “the crowd wasn’t hostile to the officers.”

So, uhm, yes. Apparently “vigilante justice” is now called “street justice,” and if you’d like to go where it’s legal, try Upper Darby. As a commenter says, “Everytime I go online to read the news from Philly it get wrost and wrost God save use !” God save use all.

Update: Uhm, okay, newspapers, just because the Upper Darby police chief uses the phease “street justice” doesn’t mean youse all have to. C’mon, people.
