The mayor of Pottstown is a pretty powerful position. You get to direct the police, drink all the Yuengling Pottstown Ale you want, attend ribbon-cuttings. I think the mayor of Pottstown also gets to be mayor of Pottsville.

Yes, being mayor of Pottstown has its perks. But it’s not without its drawbacks. For example, the residents of Pottstown think you have the powers of the king, apparently (or queen, in this case).

Mayor Sharon Valentine-Thomas wants residents to know there are things she just cannot do.

In her report to Borough Council Monday, Valentine-Thomas said some people in town seem to be of the impression she has powers she does not.
