Archaeological Dig Shows Hardships Of Ancestors

In preparation for the widening of a road, archaeologists are doing a dig at a site in Middletown, Del. A University of Delaware professor says they’re learning much about tenant farmers in the 19th and 20th centuries from the excavation. They’re even correcting misconceptions.

But they’re also learning about the hardships they faced back in ye olde times.

During the federally mandated dig at the site of the state Department of Transportation’s Choptank Road widening project near Middletown, workers have found the foundation of a farmhouse. They’ve also found objects ranging from an ax to a Sears catalog.

You see that? Instead of a constant stream of free Internet porn, people in the olden days had to use the Sears catalog. And you don’t even want to know what the ax was for.
