Sylvester Johnson Steals Idea From… Milton Street?!

Feb. 21, Philadelphia Will Do, “Milton Street Continues Baffling Campaign“:

Yesterday, Street came up with a kickoff plan for his mayoral candidacy: A March 1 rally outside City Hall where he expects 5,000 people to show up to support his Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol-inspired plan to deputize ordinary Philadelphia citizens and give them police powers.

Today, Daily News, “Commish: I need 10,000 black men“:

Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson is joining with civic leaders in an effort to recruit 10,000 black men to fight crime in Philadelphia’s toughest neighborhoods.

Dubbed “A Call to Action: 10,000 men - It’s a New Day,” the effort will begin Oct. 21 with a rally and recruitment drive at the Liacouras Center, followed days afterward by the training of the volunteers to act as community “peacekeepers.”

Fearing that he might not make the newspapers tomorrow, Milton Street launched an all-out offensive to get on the 6 o’clock news and in the local papers tomorrow with his newest plan to boost his mayoral bid: Suing his hometown of Moorestown, New Jersey.

CBS 3 reports Street is planning on suing Moorestown, N.J., because the township interfered with his campaign by arresting him on a warrant they put out for him four years ago for unpaid traffic tickets. Clearly, the township had this nefarious plan all along, put in motion when yours truly was in diapers (or maybe college).

Details are, of course, to follow.

However, despite just getting into the race a few days ago, he already has an exit strategy planned:

He said he will stay in the campaign, but only if he receives significant community support for his plan to fight violence in the city.

“Somewhere around March 1, I’m going to have a mass, mass rally of people that are committed to be changing the crime and would be willing to be deputized,” he said. “If I can’t get a substantial amount of people to commit to that, then I’m going to bail out.”

Citizens who want to be deputized! Hmm… expect Steve Guttenberg, Bubba Smith, Michael Winslow, David Graf, Sharon Stone (!) and the rest of the cast of Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol to show up, then. I’m pretty sure they all need work.
