N.J. Republicans Reminiscing About 1994

Remember 1994? The Republicans swept Congress, Newt Gingrich became the first in a series of loathsome Speakers and O.J. Simpson was on trial for killing his wife and another dude.

Well, in New Jersey, they still think it’s 1994, since apparently are still making O.J. Simpson jokes!

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A local Republican Club in New Jersey has removed a slogan from its Web site that read, “Obama loves America like O.J. loved Nicole.” The Pemberton Republican Club removed the slogan after Democrats alleged racist campaign tactics.

The club’s Web master, Ed Kuck, tells The Philadelphia Inquirer that he saw the slogan on an Internet site and copied it onto the club’s Web page as a joke.

Ha! I’m not really sure how it’s racist, though. Is it any different than writing America loves John McCain like Ira Einhorn loved Holly Maddux? Or how America hates McCain like Nancy Reagan hated cocaine? I dunno, something like that.

Anyway, nice work on the joke from 1994, Republican Party. An O.J. Simpson joke — that’ll bring in the kids. Next, the Republican Party will rile ‘em with a comparison of Obama to Al Jolson in blackface.

Hey, everybody! If you did nothing but watch sports all weekend, you might have missed–no, just kidding, this story was there, too. As you know, then: OJ Simpson has been charged with several felonies. Apparently, we all had so much fun last time OJ was in serious trouble we all decided to do it again, only without murdering anyone this time.

And we all remember what happened last time OJ was charged with several felonies: Horrible bootleg merchandise. Fortunately, I snapped up several crates of bootleg merchandise for a song after OJ’s last acquittal.

I can only assume what was popular then will also be popular now. As such, I am ready, as I have a crate of OJ Simpson pogs and OJ Simpson pog slammers. In keeping with the theme, I’ve also invested heavily in Power Rangers action figures (gotta price gouge on Christmas) and 49ers quarterback Steve Young.
