N.J. Woman Even Tougher Than David Murphy

When I heard Action News‘ David Murphy separated his shoulder but continued to play in a charity softball game and then drove himself to the hospital, I thought I’d found the winner for toughest person in the area.

Forget that. Check out 47-year-old Annette Coletta from New Jersey. The nurse at Upper Township Middle School was following buses on a trip to the Camden Aquarium — I refuse to call it the Adventure Aquarium — when a metal rod went through her windshield and hit her in the eye. Obviously, a very serious injury, and I don’t even think I can imagine that much pain. Then here’s what happened:

The school’s superintendent says even in all that pain, Colletta’s main concern was getting the students their medication.

“Because of her efforts, even in that condition, all of our students received the medical attention that they needed, just as a daily basis. So again, it’s just a testament to her. She’s a very special person.”

After the incident, Coletta was able to pull over to the side of the road and call 911.

Holy shit! Those wimpy kids on like 45 meds each could learn something from this nurse. I bet at the hospital she wouldn’t even take any morphine.

Leftovers: Philadelphia Is Duizelingwekkend!

• According to Dutch magazine Winq, Philadelphia is great for gays! Or maybe not. This whole thing’s in Dutch, so I can’t make sense of it. But I still dig the prose: “Pardon? Jawel, Rocky, van de film Rocky, Sylvester Stalone in zijn gloriejaren. The Italian Stallion
stond symbool voor het verslagen, ontvolkte en verloederde Philadelphia van de jaren zeventig.” [The Clog]

As promised, the Wall Street firms have gathered in Shawnee on Delaware, Pa., and they… well, we dunno. But they’re there, and they’re possibly thinking about having a backup Wall Street somewhere around there. [AP/Philly.com]

• An official Philadelphia Will Do Recommendation™: The Philebrity Weekender. Some of the better local bands are playing at this thing. And a happy two-year anniversary of doin’ the whole blog shindig (as a job, to boot!) to Joey. [Philebrity]

• The Erie woman who beat her baby daddy with her baby said she didn’t mean to do it. Oh, well, then, we better give her the Brett Myers treatment. [AP/Philly.com]

• Breaking: Men can be nurses. Hmm. [Daily Pennsylvanian]

Almost forgot! Tonight, Dan Savage with Liz Spikol at the Troc! And it’s a benefit event for Philadelphians About Santorum. If you like your politics left and your male sex columnists gay, then this event is for you. [The Trouble with Spikol]
