The Daily News writes about the case against Larry Mendte today, and does address the paper’s own mentions in the court documents.
(Fox 29, also, mentioned last night that Dawn Stensland is Mendte’s wife; it wasn’t really anything special, but it was kind of sad to hear Kerri-Lee Halkett be forced to say “fair and balanced.”)
Mendte, incidentally, will plead guilty, according to his lawyer.
The Daily News story has some great lines, such as: “And that was just as Lane, dubbed ‘anchorbabe’ and the ‘Latina bombshell,’ had suspected.” And here we go, straight out of a film noir movie:
Then, he allegedly dispensed intimate details to the Daily News of Lane’s late-night confrontation with undercover New York police, in which she allegedly called a policewoman a slur, as well as confidential attorney-client communications about her lawsuits. These details then appeared on PhillyGossip.com, a blog written by Dan Gross [in the photo, with an indestructible cheerleader], and later in the Daily News.
Asked if Mendte supplied information about Lane, Gross said, “I don’t discuss whether anyone is, or is not, a source of mine.” Asked if he cooperated in the FBI investigation, Gross said, “Absolutely not. I have never been contacted by any investigator in the case.”
Ha ha, Dan Gross is going to shut anyone down! He’s ready to go to jail to protect his known source, Larry Mendte! (Unless Mendte leaked to Regina Medina or Damon C. Williams.)
The feds also found the famed Alycia Lane bikini pix on Mendte’s computer, but didn’t say if he was Page 6’s source. If he was, Larry: Shame on you. For the first time since this scandal started I am actually mad. One, he could have released them to the public. And two, he could have at least given them to a news source in Philadelphia instead of the New York Post. We can take lawbreakers, Larry; we don’t tolerate Benedict Arnolds.

Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been in the news a lot lately, you might’ve noticed, after paying $84 billion for a prostitute, who now is the #1 recording artist in the world.
How does Jim McGreevey get back in the news? While he didn’t pay for sex (that we know of, at least), he did cheat on his wife with a dude — more of a Republican thing to do, I know — and was the talk of the nation just four years ago. How do you top that? Oh, here we go: McGreevey’s former driver says he had a threesome with McGreevey and McGreevey’s wife! He says he only had sexual contact with the governor’s then girlfriend, Dina Matos, though.
It’s good to see McGreevey went the time-honored tradition of using power to get sex instead of paying for it.
Yeah, there you go: McGreevey is right back in the news and Eliot Spitzer is out of our minds forever. Or, rather, probably not, but, hey, here’s a new sex story!

The New York Post’s Page Six continued its inexplicable incessant Alycia Lane coverage over the weekend. Turns out this time there’s actual news involved! P6 reported Alycia Lane and boyfriend Chris Wragge have apparently split up. Wragge, an anchor at WCBS in New York, is separated from his wife, model Victoria Silvstedt.
A source told Page Six the duo split up because execs at CBS were worried Wragge’s gal pal was getting too much bad press and put pressure on Wragge to break it off. But I thought all publicity was good publicity!
Alycia Lane attended a wedding in NYC by herself recently. She has, as best as I can tell, not yet released those bikini photos, although that would certainly be some good press.

The New York Post is quickly becoming your number one source for Alycia Lane news and gossip. One might think the New York tabloids, having actual celebrities to report on, would be uninterested in a Philadelphia news anchor, but, uh, she sent bikini photos to Rich Eisen? Okay, I’m still a little stumped on this one.
Lane was slated to emcee Phillymag’s Best of Philly™ party last night, but it turns out the mag named her Best Pen Pal in this year’s issue, a nod to (what else) emailed bikini photos. Lane was so enraged she pulled out of hosting the event. Editor Larry Platt to Page Six: “Alycia called and told me it was a low blow and cheap shot.”
What have we learned here? Well, (1) Alycia Lane won’t be showing up at any Philadelphia Will Do gatherings anytime soon, and (2) Alycia Lane … doesn’t like jokes, I guess? Aw, forget this. I like a woman my newsanchor to laugh and understand the game. Kerri-Lee Halkett and Jennaphr Frederick rolled with the punches and said “We love D-Mac” on air. Fuck this other noise.
Update: Whoops, Dan Gross had this last week and I somehow missed it. (Sorry!) I love that Alycia Lane is making the New York gossip pages but gets second billing behind Jonesy in the AM in the Daily News. Of course, Jonesy’s book deserves to get name above the title:
The book, which also details her relationship with rapper Busta Rhymes, described as a well-endowed but selfish lover, is littered with spelling errors, mostly names, including that of “Philadelphia Mayor Shaun Street.”

Meet Christina Alisio. Alisio is — or, rather, was — Paul Lo Duca’s “Philly chick.” Yes, the 19-year-old Alisio was banging the Mets (and former Marlins) catcher when he came to town, but was shocked — shocked — when she found out that Lo Duca was married and had another 19-year-old in New York!
According to the New York Post, the two originally met last year at a gambling parlor (the Center City Turf Club, we suppose) where she works. Lo Duca passed her his phone number, invited her and some friends to a ballgame, then back to his hotel room, where he shooed her friends away for some time between the sheets. The Post also provides this detail: “[T]he pair had their romps exclusively at the Westin and the Hyatt, where he occasionally stayed.”
But Alisio was shocked — shocked! — to find out her baseball loverboy not only had a wife, but also another 19-year-old girl on Long Island, allegedly. (Lo Duca denies all of this, of course, as well as the allegations that he has a huge gambling problem. Quote from a rep: “It’s her one chance to be in The New York Post.” Yes, Philly girls, dreaming of one day making the pages of the New York Post.)
Alisio, though, says she’s heartbroken. To wit:
“I guess Paul likes young girls and has one in every city - I must be his Philly chick,” said a stunned Christina Alisio.
“You never know how many are out there,” the shattered 19-year-old said. “He put on a good show. [It seemed like] he cared about me. He was a nice guy. Now I know it was all a show.”
On the straying slugger’s sexual prowess in bed, Alisio then added, “He’s all right but below what I expected.” [...]
“I felt hurt. I felt used . . . I felt bad for his wife,” Alisio said. “I was just a piece of ass for him.
“I don’t really want to talk to him. He’s a liar.”
But let’s not be too hard on her. After all, she’s only 19, and what 19-year-old hasn’t had a high-profile affair with a member of the New York Mets that ended in tragedy and a cover story in the New York Post?
