Okay, so this photo is way too cool to be real. Apparently GPTMC welcomed Stephen Colbert with a big giant party for him and Jason Smith took this photo.
Yes, Mayor Nutter is the both the nerdiest guy ever and a rock star, and I’m still not totally sure how that works. But if it leads to photos like this, who cares! And, wait, there’s more: This kinda way long stalking Stephen Colbert piece — the Dan Gross one is good — has some blogdrama at the end, where someone accuses CP of copying off this Phillyist article that’s trying to get on TV or something. Aw, only 18 Diggs.

Last night was the first of four nights of Colbert Report in Philadelphia this week, and Stephen’s first local guest was none other than Mayor Michael Nutter. (He also had on Ralph Archbold, aka The Real Ben Franklin.)
The interview segment is pretty funny, especially at the start, and the mayor gets at least one good one-liners in there. (Did you know he has dry wit? Every single article about him now mentions it!) Tomorrow The Roots are on. Sweet. Redlasso video clip is on the permalink page.

Hey, did you know that both Barack Obama and Michael Nutter are black? Yes, I know, now that racism no longer exists it’s hard to remember who’s black and who’s white nowadays, but both the frontrunner for the presidential election and the current mayor of Philadelphia have a high melanin count.
And, what do you know, Nutter is supporting Hillary Clinton, who is not only not male but is white!
Vivian McCabe, a grandmother, neighborhood block captain and supporter of both Mr. Nutter and Mr. Obama, expressed the frustration in a sidewalk interview the other day. “I was shocked,” she said, referring to Mr. Nutter’s endorsement of Mrs. Clinton. “Not because he’s black, but — I was just looking at him to…” She paused. “What words should I use?” she said. She could not come up with any.
How do we describe why people are surprised at the black mayor supporting a white candidate without mentioning race? Damn, I don’t think we can! And when will Bob Brady support Hillary Clinton (his fellow white person) like he’s supposed to!

Here’s Michael Nutter’s new ad for Hillary Clinton. (She just released five new ones, including one in Spanish.) Not much to this, although Nutter says she wants to “invest in our communities,” which no other candidate wants to do.

Michael Nutter was scheduled to announce this morning the citywide cleanup Saturday was a success; if cleanliness is next to godliness, then Philadelphia has escaped hell for purgatory.
On a report on Fox Saturday night, the mayor said that a clean city is a safe city. And then he added: “23,000 public employees, a million and a half citizens, we can’t do it all by ourselves. Your work, Kerri-Lee, and the many others who have gotten involved in this, it really makes a difference.”
Woo-hoo! Anybody tells you Philadelphia Will Do makes a difference, you can tell them I didn’t post about the citywide cleanup1 and that I strive every day to not make a difference. I do enjoy Nutter’s shirt from benevolent corporate sponsor Verizon. There is no doubt Nutter is simply trying to emulate Bernard Hopkins and his GoldenPalace.com temporary tattoo.

It’s been a while since I’ve written about Bob Brady, who around this time last year was a daily Philadelphia Will Do post. And, hey, there were two recent Bob Brady stories in the news! So let’s link them here:
• Phillymag’s Steve Volk writes how Mayor Nutter quashed any chances of anybody running against Brady for U.S. Rep. And, ha ha, Nutter basically got the guy who was going to run against Brady a job advising none other than Mayor Nutter! Welcome to politics.
• Inga Saffron of the Inquirer reports on her blog that Brady got a contract to a local company to light the Capitol. It’s the same company that installed the lights on City Hall that make the building look like an evil rich family’s mansion!
So there’s Bob Brady, being, um, a politician. In an unrelated note, Philadelphia Will Do provides five-star consulting services on lighting at one-star prices.

Here’s Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter throwing out the first pitch of today’s Phillies game. As you may have noticed, he has his shirt tucked in. Joe Moore (you don’t know him) told me in fifth grade you don’t tuck in a sports jersey, and I learned my lesson. Nutter could rap “Straight Outta Compton” and he’d still be the biggest nerd in all of Philadelphia, just because of that shirt.

Even though he wishes the candidates would just stick to the issues like “crime in cities” or “free puppies for rapping mayors”, Mayor Nutter was asked about the comments Obama’s former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, made. And what do you know! The Clinton supporter says he would drop out of his church if he heard comments like that.
Now the mayor went to St. Joe’s Prep and was raised Catholic. He’s now Baptist — which probably means one of those old Jesuits gave a sermon which was just too out there for Nutter. (One time in high school a priest was railing against the evils of the world and said, “Doctors… get to go on vacations… with their families!” I’m pro-doctor vacation, I believe.)
Our esteemed mayor was also on Face the Nation this weekend. Video after the jump.

The Daily News‘ Catherine Lucey noted yesterday that the mayor met with MC Hammer — and the pair discussed rapping!
Nutter tells PhillyClout that during the former rap star’s visit to the Mayor’s office, he played him the YouTube clip of his inauguration party performance of “Rapper’s Delight.”
And Hammer was impressed. “He thought it was good,” Nutter said.
Now that he’s locked up Hammer, the endorsement of Vanilla Ice can’t be far behind.
