Mascot Monday Spreads, Albeit Belatedly

Way back when I first started doing this website for PW the Good Day Philadelphia hosts were basically Jennaphr Frederick, Kerri-Lee Halkett and some dude who liked horses, George Mallet. Naturally, I was a daily viewer; one day, three mascots (a baby, a steak and a muffler) came in for some job promotion and Mascot Monday was born.

All the old Mascot Mondays were deleted from YouTube, sadly, though I will probably put them back up eventually (NB: in this sentence, “probably” means “will not.”) But that’s okay; news stations in Cincinnati are picking up the trend.

I think Monday is a better day for dancing than Friday, but it’s a start.

Dancing Guy To Lead Flyers To Win

Apparently, the Flyers have a secret weapon this year: The Dancing Guy! In the proud tradition of Yo-Yo, Shawn “Shawny” Hill dances to, as the Courier-Post writes, “provide a spark to pump up the crowd and make the building loud, as well as providing some comic relief when needed.” Man, the Flyers ought to pay him.

Naturally, Good Day Philadelphia had the 22-year-old Rowan junior on this morning and told him to dance, dance, dance after an interview where he was treated as if he were the most famous man on the planet. He was joined (on the green screen, for some reason) by Dorothy Krysiuk, who pretended to smack his ass.

Yes, this is yet another “it’s not Mascot Monday, but it’ll have to do for now” moment. Video after the jump; the best part is when it cuts from him dancing immediately to a voice booming, “Everyone agrees that supporting our troops is a must.”

Mascot Monday Returns… On CBS 3!

If you’ve been reading this site for a while, you may remember Mascot Monday, the Good Day Philadelphia segment where the anchors danced with mascots. (All of the old clips have been taken down by noted fascists YouTube, it seems.) The last Mascot Monday that we have data for took place on July 17, 2006.

But never fear! As you can see above, CBS 3 today launched Phunky Phanatic Phriday, where each week an anchor will dance with the Phillie Phanatic. The greatest Mascot Monday of all time featured the Phillie Phanatic, so it’s not a bad one to get, uh, inspiration from.

In the first episode, sports anchor Ukee Washington dances with the Phanatic and an “assistant,” Amanda. At the end of the month, you’ll get to vote on which anchor gets to dance on top of the dugout with the Phanatic. There… really are no words. Maybe “mascot dancing” is a typical part of a morning show now, like weather and sports. Seriously, what the phuck?

Mascot Monday Has Totally Gone Nuts

While this isn’t quite at the level of the minute-and-a-half Phillie Phanatic Mascot Monday, this is seriously effed up. Today’s Mascot Monday features a giant sun, freakin’ Santa Claus and the return of Jennaphr Frederick:

Mascot Monday Now Inventing New Mascots

It’s beginning to look like Good Day Philadelphia is never going to run out of mascots. When they began doing Mascot Monday, it seemed like they’d have a few weeks of mascots to dance with, then, well, they’d run out.

Touché:

Jennaphr Frederick is off today, so George Mallet and an intern take over the dancing — with two mascots who may have just been created specifically for Mascot Monday.

Our favorite character here is “Caitlin the Intern,” though, as, basically, we’re hoping she’s getting college credit for this.

No BS In Today’s Mascot Monday

Seriously. Today’s Mascot Monday is all get in, get dancing, get going. No banter, only a short introduction of today’s mascot — a Rita’s Water Ice gelati, who becomes the first mascot to appear on Mascot Monday twice (according to my records). Jennaphr Frederick even talks about her weekend during the segment.

Consider this old axiom: Mascot Monday is like sex (or pizza). When it’s good, it’s really good, and when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good.

Mascot Monday: ‘I Hope My Mom Is Never Gonna See This’

It’s Monday, and that means one thing: Mascot dancing.

Short, but sweet. God bless you, Good Day Philadelphia.

Dancing For Fire Safety

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Mascot Monday! The key line in today’s segment is from Jennaphr Frederick, who says “This is a news-oriented program, and that’s why we have Mascot Monday.”

Dancing With The Sharks

Ahh, yes, it’s Monday, and therefore it’s Mascot Monday. Today, the gang dances with Finley, the Camden Riversharks mascot. Be sure to watch for the part where Finley attacks Jennaphr Frederick. Enjoy!
