Philly.com Faces New Challenger

Philly.com may have the horrible commenter award locked down, but St. Mary’s County Today (a paper in Maryland, apparently) really throws down the gauntlet with this graphic.

Tobaccoland notes the paper also wrote, “Four cocaine cockroaches crawling with heavy charges.” (The paper also writes that the drug dealing will stop now that people have been arrested for it. I can’t believe how many people think this.) There’s also this editorial, that says if some dude hadn’t dealt drugs, he could have been president, like Barack Obama.

Oh, yeah, and the paper’s front page links to a recent Fatimah Ali column.

I believe I have found a new favorite website.

Bacon Can Kill (And Not Just From High Fat Levels)

Can you really resist a story with a lead like this?

ELKTON, Md. — Like many little brothers, 7-year-old William Richmond loves to follow his older brother around. Its’a good thing, too, because that’s how he learned a life-saving maneuver that saved his brother’s life.

Yes, this NBC 10 story… er, wait. Elkton, Maryland? That’s, uh, wait, what? I mean, I know Elkton is pretty close to the Delaware border, but this is really going quite far for a story, isn’t it? (And it’s not like this is really salacious enough to justify it.) Is that really in NBC 10’s viewing area?

Anyway. Little 7-year-old William Richmond saved his brother Mark from choking on a piece of bacon, as dramatically re-enacted for NBC 10 in the photo. William saw his brother choking and, well, performed a famous maneuver on him:

“I did the Heimlich removal,” William said.

And remove the piece of bacon, he did.

Er, or not.

Who’s willing to bet that the kid said “maneuver” and whoever was writing copy for NBC 10 just wanted to use that “and remove the piece of bacon, he did” zinger. Or whoever was interviewing him didn’t know what the Heimlich maneuver was. I mean, It’d sorta work anyway even with maneuver: “And maneuve that piece of bacon, he did.” Well, maybe not.
