SEPTA Loves Your, Uh, Compliments

We receive positive letters at a 10 to one ratio, which is great.

That’s a quote from the new president/CEO of SEPTA, Joe Casey. Yes, he says SEPTA — SEPTA! — receives 10 times more complimentary mail than it does hate mail.

Feel free to heap praise in a 10:1 ratio in the comments. Or, you know, however.

Larry Kane: Hated Online

Yesterday, veteran Philadelphia newsman Larry Kane blogged about the reaction to his comments on Giants coach Tom Coughlin and how the post got more traffic than anything else he’s ever posted on the site.

After Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes missed the first of two field goals in the fourth quarter, Coughlin screamed at his kicker on the sideline. And Larry Kane was having none of it, writing “his actions diminish sports in general.” I’m not sure how Coughlin yelling at his kicker diminishes my daily run, but whatevs.

Well, apparently, it generated a lot of responses and Kane realized he could get another post just by writing about the comments. He’s getting this blogging this down pat already!

All Hail The Barbaro Haters

101306barbaro.jpg

From the big profile of Barbaro doctor Dean Richardson in today’s Daily News:

“Now, having said that, did I get crazy letters in the mail telling me I was inhumane, I should have put the horse down?” Richardson said. “Yeah, I got those. Did I get the phone calls telling me I was an awful person for spending money on a horse when there are starving people in Philadelphia? The answer is yeah, I got those. Cursing me out for wasting my time and rich people’s money on dumb farm animals. All those kind of hate mail and voice mail.

Yes! There are people who hate Barbaro more than I do! (I don’t hate Barbaro enough to send a hate mail to his seemingly nice doctor.)

Anyway, I also wanted to point out this line from Richardson, which is kind of the creepiest quote I’ve ever read:

“People ask me, ‘Well, how come you haven’t checked his semen to see if he’s fertile?’”

Erhm. What people?
