Fake Grammy Nom Somehow Impresses

052808grammys.jpg

Montgomery County authorities arrested a man who allegedly scammed money from people he met online, saying he was a Grammy Award-nominated music producer.

How does that work? I have to assume every woman (at least every woman I know) would immediately look up her date’s award nomination online.

Paul Krueger allegedly gambled away the money he got from the women he met on Millionairematch.com, which just looks like a very reputable site. He was arrested in Atlantic City, to boot.

Not to mention Paul McCartney feat. Jay-Z and Linkin Park

020906gorillaz.jpg In an article in Slate yesterday, Jody Rosen quotes the work of Penn English professor James English regarding the Grammys:

University of Pennsylvania professor James F. English points out in his new book about arts prizes and awards, The Economy of Prestige, carping critics play a crucial role in supporting institutions like the Grammys. English writes, “The tones of satire and condescension have become so standard a feature of prize journalism that to eschew such tones is to appear dull-witted or naïve… [But] the more crippling naïveté rests with the masters of condescension, who have failed to consider their own position in the larger system. Modern cultural prizes cannot fulfill their social functions unless authoritative people… are thundering against them.”

You hear that, critics of Madonna’s performance with a cartoon band? You’re supporting this shit!
