Eagles Win Grammar Battle, Lose War

Yeah, the Eagles may have lost — and, in actuality, blown a game they really had — but at least they weren’t on National TV with that kind of apostrophe usage.

Persnickety Grammar Moment Of The Week

I’ve mellowed on the whole “pluralizing with an apostrophe” kick. First off, there’s a dude in the paper who covers that for me. Second off, I write x-thousand words a day, I’m sure I’ve done it myself in my darkest of moments. But, you, Daily News sports staff — or whoever keyed in the headline on the web — have no excuse for writing “Phil’s.” Unless Philadelphia Phil and Phyllis won the game and not the local baseball nine1… ahem, ahem.

1 And even then, it still doesn’t work. I mean, Philadelphia Phil and Phyllis never win.

Founded By Penn Alums, Urban Was Founded By Penn Alums

It’s been a while since we all checked in with Penn wunderkind/investigative journalist Stephen Morse.

Let’s see what he’s up to now (copied verbatim):

Last week when my friend brought home a reusable ice luge ice luge from Urban Outfitters, I couldn’t stop singing the praises of the Penn-alum founded company founded by Penn alums that opened its doors for the first time in at 43rd and Locust 43rd and Locustin the 1970s.

Yes, but where did it open? And who founded it? And what reusable product did your friend buy? Answers, Stephen, we need answers!

The Jersey Shore: You’re Your Vacation Destination

032706jerseyshore.jpg The Sunday Inquirer contained an article about how the Jersey shore is looking to attract new visitors with an “edgy” website. The site, YourPlayTherapy.com, has short blurbs on shore resorts and promises to have flash games of traditional boardwalk attractions “soon.”

Okay, the website was about as edgy as Home Improvement. But the highlight of it is the questionnaire. It asks you a bunch of nonsensical questions and then spits out a shore destination that’s a perfect fit. I took the test and got Margate as my first choice, and Seaside Heights as my second choice, which is kind of like saying, “Oh, your No. 1 vacation spot is Bermuda, and your No. 2 is Baghdad.” Anyway, if I ever do go on a vacation again, I’m going back to Wildwood, thank you very much.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed taking the quiz, especially this question:

Oh, New Jersey. It’s always something, isn’t it?
