Hollywood Blonde Jabronis

I’ve always loved reading our city’s fine gossip columnists, because they have the hardest job in the world: Writing a gossip column in a town with no celebrities.

Dan Gross today wins the prize for the gossip item that sums up Philadelphia perfectly:

Wrestling legend Iron Sheik was there signing autographs and taking pictures with fans when 94.1 Free FM WYSP’s Kidd Chris celebrated his 32nd birthday with a party at Brownie’s (38th & Chestnut) Thursday night. The night before, Sheik and Chris hit Apollo (7th & Chestnut) for dinner, where Sheik told the radio host stories of his time in the 1972 Olympics and dissed Hulk Hogan, whom he called a “Hollywood blond jabroni.”

Perhaps this is part of a wrestling storyline, where the Iron Shiek is challenging Hulk Hogan to avenge his loss of the WWF Title over 20 years ago. Ooh, I can’t wait for the next installment!

Does Alycia Lane Have Prince Albert In A Can?

In today’s Page Six, they apparently ran out of celebrities to write about, and so they went all Dan Gross on us and delivered this:

FOXY Philadelphia TV reporter Alycia Lane gives her stories the personal touch. The Long Island native, who works for CBS affiliate WKYW [sic], jetted to Monaco to interview Prince Albert on the 50th anniversary of Princess Grace’s wedding and got invited to a private party at the palace. In photos seen by Page Six, the newlywed journo is seen head to head with Albert, her arms cozily wrapped around the royal. In another, they’re holding hands and dancing. Lane insists there was no canoodling or risqué behavior. “Absolutely nothing happened,” she fumed to Page Six. A station rep said Lane was only being “friendly” with the prince.

Of course, since Page Six reported this tidbit, we can be fairly sure that absolutely nothing did happen.

What All The Nuns Are Thinking, But Won’t Say

Speaking of navel gazing, at least twice once a week day I search for myself on Technorati, the main blog search engine, to see if anyone has commented on anything I’ve written. And to see how my Technorati rank is doing. (I’m okay with it right now.)

When I went to take a look at myself today, I found this on the front page:

Oooh, church gossip! We hear… that Ex-Archbishop Anthony Bevilacqua is just fine with the way Cardinal Justin Rigali does his job.

Which altar server can’t stop eating unblessed hosts before mass at St. Tim’s? Which priest at a prominent Northeast parish can’t say “forgive us our trespasses” without stuttering?

Ahh. ‘Tis a wonderful beast, this Internet.
