Tom Knox Unaware Of Significance Of A Three Hour Tour, A Three Hour Tour

The Daily News‘ Dave Davies today writes about Tom Knox’s background, and not just about how his mother was crying and he left to join the Navy and send his money back to her. Apparently there was some sort of questionable deal he was going to make after being hired by Gov. Bob Casey to rehab Fidelity Mutual. A questionable deal? He’ll fit right in as a politician!

He also worked very hard as a youngster, so much so that he is immune to pop culture references:

Decades later, his executive assistant, Jack Stollsteimer, made a joke with a reference to the “Gilligan’s Island” TV series, and found that Knox didn’t get it because he had little time for TV.

Stollsteimer recalls Knox saying, “‘You have to remember, in the 1960s I was out every night selling insurance.’” [...] To this day, Knox said, he never reads for pleasure.

Hmm. There are two sides to this. On one hand, we’ll thankfully be spared of the ridiculously outdated pop culture references politicians usually make. On the other hand, though, damn. Does Philadelphia really want a mayor who’s never seen Gilligan’s Island? Hmm.
