PWD: Easing Back Into The Week With You

Yes, yes, it’s the day after Christmas. I am still groggy and still wishing it was, say, last weekend so I could sleep in. But that’s okay! I all so recognize that you are that way, too, and it is my job as an official Internet Time Waster™ to make sure you can ease into the week without any freakouts.

And what better way to celebrate a day back at work than the greatest sign in Philadelphia, Center City’s Friendly Donuts. (Thanks, Geekadelphia.) Hopefully, the sign of the greatest donut shop in the world will give you a smile to start your day. Merry Boxing Day!

City Council: Let Them Discuss Cake

If you need to know why the City Council (namely Councilwoman Joan Krajewski) is revisiting the trans fat ban, all you need to do is check out the mouthwatering CBS 3 report, which features multiple shots of donuts and makes you gain weight just by looking at it.

But City Council didn’t just buy some donuts from local bakeries and then decide to reverse the ban. No, they debated it for three hours, according to Metro’s new blog, cleverly titled Metropolis.

One of Juan Ramos’ reasons for wanting to keep the ban on artificial trans fats? Avoiding national confusion.

Councilman Juan Ramos: “Philadelphia is nationally known as a trans fat-free city, this amendment would create confusion across the country.”

Farmers in Idaho would just not know what to do if Philadelphia exempts “mom and pop” bakeries from the trans fat rules, which it’s going to do of course.

J-Roll Would Like You To See The Simpsons Movie

A commenter posted this ad for baseball’s All-Star Game yesterday, and it’s worth watching. It’s a pretty cute ad, with the baseball players riding San Francisco’s cable cars. At about the 30 second mark, it gets good. Ryan Howard and Chase Utley laugh maniacally as the cable car nearly kills a marching band, and then Jimmy Rollins randomly eats a donut, mimicking an ad for the Simpsons movie. Coincidentally, Jimmy Rollins will be home eating donuts during the All-Star Break this year.

This crime, of course, was solved right away. Ba-dum-pum.
