Larry: No Sex With Alycia

Hey, that Phillymag with the article about Dawn Stensland (Fox 29 anchor, wife of Larry Mendte, etc.) finally arrived in my mailbox; credit to the paper for actually getting to the only possibly interesting thing about the story in the second section, so I could stop reading it.

Today, Dawn says she believes Larry when he says the relationship between him and Lane was inappropriately close, and included kissing, but the two did not have sex.

And if you believe that, I have an issue of Phillymag to sell you. Then again, if everyone in the TV news business is going to act like 13-year-olds, maybe people only get to second base.

John Bolaris Makes Local News More Fun

The Inquirer’s Michael Klein got a cover story in yesterday’s Inquirer about Larry Mendte, and how some people liked him, and others didn’t. Wow, it’s kinda like me, except people like him.

The article was pretty good if only because it reminded me that Mendte was the first host of Access Hollywood; perhaps he will return to a different celebrity newsmagazine (say, Extra!) to team with the guy from Sugar Ray. But the best part was John Bolaris’ quote; the Fox weatherman was one of the few people to go on the record about Mendte. (Vai Sikahema also gave a positive quote about Larry inbetween knockouts.)

In 2001, while Bolaris was catching grief for predicting a huge snowstorm that didn’t materialize, Mendte confronted him.

Mendte “calls me into a room and says, ‘How dare you destroy what I’ve created here?’ I said, ‘What you have created here?’ He said, ‘I mean we.’ ” Bolaris said Mendte later apologized.

Bolaris, one of the few local TV personalities who agreed to speak publicly about Mendte, said that if Mendte had been spying on Lane, “I hope he gets what he deserves. I also think he owes a big-time apology to Alycia Lane, the viewers, his family” and his station.

What makes this even better is Bolaris works with Mendte’s wife, Dawn Stensland. Ha ha, the 10 O’Clock News could be hilarious tonight.

Retards Force Dawn Stensland To Apologize

Last night, 10 O’Clock News anchor Dawn Stensland had to apologize on air for a “self-deprecating comment” she made on the air that offended people the night before. When I first saw it, i thought: Oh! People don’t like self-deprecating comments! That’s why I don’t have any friends! (Er, I mean: I’m so popular despite it, wow!)

But, apparently, after a medical report, Stensland said she sometimes feels “like a retard.” Dan Gross reports she stayed up until 1 a.m. to answer the 23 — twenty-three! — emails she got after the broadcast.

Stensland said it wasn’t her intention to offend anyone, as opposed to when Dave Huddleston called her a “cracker.” That was totally meant to offend.
