Samuel L. Jackson Should Stay Indoors

So Bernie Mac died, and that was kind of sad. And now Isaac Hayes has died, too, which is also sad. Apparently, though, before Isaac Hayes died he passed on his teachings in a phone interview with Damon C. Williams.

Seriously, check out the headline: “People Paper lucky enough to spend time with Hayes while there was still a chance.” Catchy. What wisdom did he pass on?

“I have a new album coming out on Concord records, but I haven’t titled it yet,” Hayes said. “I’m also in a new movie with Bernie Mac and Sam Jackson called ‘Soul Men.’ ” The movie is due out later this year.

Oh, man. If I were Samuel L., I’d be heading to a doctor immediately.

Dan Gross: First Amendment Defender

The Daily News writes about the case against Larry Mendte today, and does address the paper’s own mentions in the court documents.

(Fox 29, also, mentioned last night that Dawn Stensland is Mendte’s wife; it wasn’t really anything special, but it was kind of sad to hear Kerri-Lee Halkett be forced to say “fair and balanced.”)

Mendte, incidentally, will plead guilty, according to his lawyer.

The Daily News story has some great lines, such as: “And that was just as Lane, dubbed ‘anchorbabe’ and the ‘Latina bombshell,’ had suspected.” And here we go, straight out of a film noir movie:

Then, he allegedly dispensed intimate details to the Daily News of Lane’s late-night confrontation with undercover New York police, in which she allegedly called a policewoman a slur, as well as confidential attorney-client communications about her lawsuits. These details then appeared on PhillyGossip.com, a blog written by Dan Gross [in the photo, with an indestructible cheerleader], and later in the Daily News.

Asked if Mendte supplied information about Lane, Gross said, “I don’t discuss whether anyone is, or is not, a source of mine.” Asked if he cooperated in the FBI investigation, Gross said, “Absolutely not. I have never been contacted by any investigator in the case.”

Ha ha, Dan Gross is going to shut anyone down! He’s ready to go to jail to protect his known source, Larry Mendte! (Unless Mendte leaked to Regina Medina or Damon C. Williams.)

The feds also found the famed Alycia Lane bikini pix on Mendte’s computer, but didn’t say if he was Page 6’s source. If he was, Larry: Shame on you. For the first time since this scandal started I am actually mad. One, he could have released them to the public. And two, he could have at least given them to a news source in Philadelphia instead of the New York Post. We can take lawbreakers, Larry; we don’t tolerate Benedict Arnolds.

Leads Of The Day

Let’s all congratulate Damon C. Williams, for the two best leads of the day anywhere.

First, Mural to bring cops, kids together today in N. Philly:

If art imitates life, then Philadelphia will become a beacon of peace and synergy if the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program has its way.

And, second, Are you a kid with nothing to do?

Attending summer camp can be an annual rite of passage for city youths - even those with mental or behavioral health issues.

The second story’s pretty interesting, actually, and it also contains the best-named school in the district: Gompers Middle School.

‘Daily News’ Honors Firefighters With Hitler Reference

The lead of Damon C. Williams’ article about two late firefighters who were honored with a plaque:

SEPTEMBER 1939 is a month etched in history books as the beginning of a world conflagration.

That month, Hitler invaded Poland, leading Great Britain to declare war on Germany, which ultimately led to U.S. involvement and World War II.

On a side note, I would totally recommend checking out Williams’ Twitter page, which is an awesome combination of slang, old-timey newspaper speak and the acronym YFJ, which stands for Your Favorite Journalist.

Top o the mornin’, peeps! Regulatin’ like Warren G. Time for YFB to upload a video to YouTube.
