All the local news sources have much, much more on Larry Charles today, the man arrested for trying to have sex with a 14-year-old in honor of Martin Luther King.
Thanks to Adam Bonin, we also know this about Charles: He was the late Old Dirty Bastard’s attorney.
Anyway, now Charles is locally famous for not just being ODB’s attorney but also for trying to rape a 14-year-old. The story goes like this (all of this, of course, allegedly): The girl and Charles went to the Criminal Justice Center on MLK Day. The CJC was closed, but Charles said he just wanted to help the girl post bail for someone. They then retreated into a conference room, where Charles took off all his clothes and asked the girl if she wanted to have sex. When she said no, he masturbated. Sheriff’s deputies eventually found the two after busting open the door, which was held closed by a chair.
Oh, yeah, and the girl’s his goddaughter. He’s charged with all the usuals, and also with burglary.
The Daily News also examined his permanent record and listed every single thing he’s ever done wrong at the end of the paper’s article:
In 1990, Charles, then a counselor for the Philadelphia Youth Advocate Program, was fined $1,000 and sentenced to two years’ probation for falsifying records to indicate he was taking care of troubled juveniles when he actually wasn’t. Four other counselors were fined as well.
And according to court records, Charles was arrested in 1979 on charges of indecent assault, indecent exposure and corrupting the morals of a minor, but the charges were dropped.
The state Department of Revenue, meanwhile, has filed a $28,000 lien against a property Charles owns on 77th Avenue near Ogontz Avenue in West Oak Lane.
I love the use of the word “meanwhile.” Are we supposed to assume the Revenue Department was filing a lien against his property at the exact same time he was trying to bone a 14-year-old?
