A correction in today’s Daily News:
Henry Holcomb, former head of Local 38010 of the Newspaper Guild/Communication Workers of America, was misidentified yesterday in a caption with a photo showing Holcomb swearing in his replacement, Daily News gossip columnist Dan Gross.
Man, they will not tolerate dissent over there, eh? Step down from the union, and they will never get your name correct in the paper again. (Although I guess it’s right in this correction.) I’m glad they had a swearing-in ceremony, though. It’s nice to see that even in real life journalists need to have some sort of peg for their activities.
I wonder if Holcomb and Gross got the oath right. I bet they did. I mean, this swearing-in was pretty important.

A correction in today’s Daily News:
In an article yesterday about an antiterrorism exercise involving livestock in Philadelphia and Chester County, an FBI spokeswoman was quoted as saying that hoof-and-mouth disease had been found in three states. The spokeswoman made the comment in connection with the fake scenario used in the exercise. No actual instances of the disease have been reported in the United States.
Man, nobody ever send a Daily News reporter to one of those high school assemblies where the principal tells all the kids their friends died in a drunk driving accident and then (surprise!) nobody actually died and everyone learns a valuable lesson.

Right here in today’s Daily News comes this superb reaction:
An article in yesterday’s paper on Bryan McDonald incorrectly said that he had been accused of raping Nicole Reilly in June 2003. McDonald, who is on trial in Reilly’s death, is accused of raping another woman that month.
I am sure his family requested the correction because the inaccuracy made their family look bad.

A correction in today’s Daily News:
A photo caption in Saturday’s paper accompanying a story on the Olympic Games’ Opening Day ceremonies misidentified a member of the U.S. men’s basketball team. Standing next to Kobe Bryant was teammate Carmelo Anthony, not Allen Iverson.
Ha! To note: Iverson’s getting a bit on in years, and he’s not on the Olympic team anymore. On the plus side, at least the Daily News didn’t confuse Iverson with new Nuggets signee Chris Andersen.

Back-to-back corrections from The Courier-Post.
A story on a Christian hip hop DJ in the April 6 issue of South Jersey Living contain incorrect names and details about an abuse incident. B.I.G. C.I.T.Y., aka Ron Goodwin, of Cherry Hill, said he is not certain of the identity of the man who nearly raped him and then raped his brother when they were children. Goodwin’s daughter is named Anissa. Raymond Watkins is the owner of Drop Zone Recording Studio in Camden County.
A map of the bike route a Cinnaminson man is taking to raise money for the American Cancer Society mislabeled the state and his starting point. He will start from Indiana, Pa.
Oh. So they confused Indiana the state with Indiana, Pennsylvania? Or did they just label Pennsylvania “Ohio”?
Oh, yeah: Who did the article call a child rapist, then? Man, this correction needs a clarification.

An article on Irish pubs in the March 16 Travel section said the singer Tommy Makem occasionally performs at the Black Rose pub in Boston. Makem died in August.

A correction in today’s Daily News:
A photo on Page 3 yesterday showed Conrad Veidt in “The Man Who Laughs,” a 1928 silent film, not Heath Ledger as the Joker.
They also confused Entertainment Tonight with a show called Entertainment Weekly, whatever that is. On the plus side for the Daily News, ol’ Conrad and Heath had a bunch in common; they both were staunchly opposed to the Nazis and they’re both dead.

Today’s Daily News correction.
The name of the Philadelphia Developmental Disabilities Corporation was misidentified in yesterday’s Wing Bowl Extra.
And the integrity of the Wing Bowl Extra section is forever tarnished.
In other correction news, Metro apparently accidentally called Rep. Patrick Murphy a former lieutenant instead of a captain yesterday. Dun dun dun!

One of the better corrections in recent memory appeared in Saturday’s Daily News:
A quote by Lakers coach Phil Jackson reported in yesterday’s Daily News was incorrectly identified as being said about Kobe Bryant. Jackson was instead speaking about Knicks coach Isiah Thomas.
A quote about Osama Bin Laden was incorrect, too; it was actually about the Pope.
