Coffee Shop To Spread Like Virus

If there’s one thing this town is lacking in, it’s certainly chain coffee shops. There just simply aren’t enough Starbucks here! Why aren’t there more Bucks County Coffees? Just last week, protesters were in the streets, demanding someone do something about it.

You can quiet down. More chains are coming! Local entrepreneur Joe Grasso has purchased the Saxby’s Coffee chain, moved its headquarters to the Curtis Building and says he’s in position to become the #2 coffee retailer behind Starbucks.

A Saxby’s will open next week in Wayne, and there will be close to 60 in the Philadelphia-area by the first quarter of next year, according to Grasso: “We’re growing at a pace of one a week. That should increase over the next five to six months.”

Pretty soon, we’ll have a chicken in every pot and a chain coffee store on every corner.

Newsbreak: Starbucks Is Popular!

041006starbucks.jpg Today’s Bucks County Courier Times has a big story about a growing phenomenon: Suburban teens like Starbucks!

Yes, yes, while the suburban teens of yore were sitting in diners and drinking coffee, the current crop of teenagers is doing something much more dangerous. They’re sitting in Starbucks and… drinking… coffee.

The teens say they’re just in it for a place to hang out, and the coffee is merely secondary. (Apparently, the mall isn’t quite as cool as it once was.) But our are nation’s teenagers becoming coffee junkies, soon skipping school to rob Wawas in order to get their coffee fix?

This trend, however, is generating health concerns in some circles. The governors of five states declared March “National Caffeine Awareness Month” to bring attention to the dangers of caffeine dependency. Local parent Lesley Gagliardi, 42, worries that the social trend is “pushing coffee” on kids.

“I didn’t even ask for coffee in my teens,” she said. “To me this was always a grown-up drink. Now, it’s a social thing.”

Yeah, man, I remember how things were. One day, I was drinking a coffee in my basement, the next thing I remember, I was sitting in South America, it was three months later, and I was covered in coffee beans and smelled like cheap hookers. Kids, just say no!
