Bully For ‘Buddy Bullyfree’

Bullies. They’re a menace in most of our schools, they beat up or tease kids weaker than them, and they’re generally total assholes. And they have names like Jimbo, Dolph, Kearney and George W. Bush.

But now, they have a menace of their own:

Holland Elementary School children met a new “Buddy” during the Council Rock school’s orientation assembly.

The giant, smiley-faced pal sported a hat that read “Bully Free is the Way to Be” as he helped kick off the school’s yearlong Olweus Bully Prevention Program.

“Buddy Bullyfree” left it to Holland Principal Andrew Sanko on Tuesday to deliver the program’s message. Sanko defined bullying as the “repeated and overtime exposure to negative actions on the part of one or more students.”

Okay, let’s think about this: How long until a group of kids beats up Buddy Bullyfree. Two, three weeks at most?

First sentence of a story in today’s Bucks County Courier Times:

“Bullying” is not a problem right now at Council Rock’s Holland Elementary School in Northampton, school Principal Andrew Sanko said.

The students, also, are doing an excellent job in “reading” and “social studies.”
