White Suburban Moms Have It Tough

It seems like every day there’s a new attack on white suburban moms. First, gas prices are now back up over $2.50 a gallon, and if you have a minivan or SUV, that means it costs about $30 to fill up! And it’s still cold out, so early spring sport practices and games force those moms to sit out in the cold watching their kids play. And it goes on like this.

Now, though, we’ve hit critical mass: White moms are being discriminated at IHOP. Or at least one white suburban mom. Yes, Karen Gotlieb, 38, told NBC 10 — in, naturally, an exclusive story — that when she sat down at a table in a Lower Merion IHOP, she was told she had to prepay. You know this would never happen at Perkins!

When she sat down, the waitress said it was the restaurant manager’s policy that all tables had to prepay. (Both the waitress and manager are black.) So, she prepaid for her meal, but then saw black families being seated and not prepaying. Gasp! IHOP says they treat their customers fairly, &c., &c., and this whole thing will probably be resolved with a gift certificate or forcing a black family to prepay next week or something.

I’ll ignore the possible undertones of her quote that as “a white suburban mom, I would never consider myself a target for discrimination like that,” and simply move to the best quote on the NBC 10 story:

“I said, ‘You want me to pay for my meal before I eat it?’ I said, ‘Do I really look like someone who needs to skip out on a bill for a few rooty, tootie, fresh and fruities?’”

And she actually says this without a bag on her head! They totally need to bring those commercials back.
