I can only echo the question asked in the comments: “Why is there a giant can of beans in the picture?” Pretty much all the other comments are people bashing Will Bunch for being liberal and other random political comments. Okay, back to wondering about the can of beans.

Will Bunch To Release Reagan Book In ‘09

Oh, man, this is pretty excellent: Next year, Daily News writer/Attytood writer Will Bunch will will release a book on Ronald Reagan. Naturally, it will attack the idea that Reagan was a king among men and should have things in every county named after him. Congrats, Will!

As you might know from this, I’m no fan of Ronald (and Nancy) Reagan and how they harmed America with horrible drug policy. Ronald Reagan could have torn down the Berlin Wall with his own two hands and I’d still believe he did more harm than good. (Not that it was just Reagan; I’m ready to jump through my TV every time I see Bill Bennett with his commentator spot on CNN.)

Sorry, too serious there for a second. Bunch’s blog post contains a lot of links and facts and opinions and really I decided to skip to the hilarious comments.

will has finally realized that his true talent, is in tearing republicans down, even dead ones, it is so much easier than contributing anything positive to the world.

Hey, everybody, Will Bunch has our newest thing to boycott: It’s Star 104.5! Or, rather, Alice 104.5. Wait. Maybe it’s the station that simulcast WJJZ 106.1. Oh, wait, Rumba 104.5?

Wait, that’s right, I actually wrote about this before. (In the previous paragraph, I forgot Sunny 104.5, but that was in my article.) Anyway, Bunch says the station, now on an alt-rock format, was told by its owner not to play the new Bruce Springsteen song!

Yay! The new one that sounds just like “867-5309/Jenny”? Are they maybe worried about being sued by Tommy Tutone? Oh, no, wait, it’s his new track “Magic” which the always-reliable Fox News says Clear Channel has ordered its stations not to play.

Like Springsteen, these “older” artists have been relegated to something called Triple A format stations — i.e. either college radio or small artsy stations such as WFUV in the Bronx, N.Y., which are immune from the Clear Channel virus of pre-programming and where the number of plays per song is a fraction of what it is on commercial radio.

So what can be done about this tidal wave of made-up news? Well, we can talk about making it stop until we’re blue in the face — but that’s not going to happen. With only three main cable news outlets — one tied too closely to the GOP spin machine and the other two in a desperate scramble for ratings — there is simply no way that they will exercise any kind of restraint. And as long as the current crew is running the federal machinery, there will always be an anonymous government official willing to give CNN or MSNBC a “scoop” about exploding Breck at some West Virginia airport. So it is with news — there are, it should now be evident, different “formats” of news. For example, right this minute on CNN, about 40 percent of the news is Real News (Iraq, Bush lawbreaking) and about 60 percent is Made-Up News (terror alerts, JonBenet Ramsey). Unfortunately, it’s the Made-Up News that gets the highest ratings.

Breaking: ‘Daily News’ writer promises big story in ‘national magazine’

I’d like to take time out to wish none other than Daily News blogger Will Bunch a very happy blog birthday. Like all good Daily News (male) staffers, Bunch is a bearded fellow with thinning hair, and has been nothing but nice to people like me.

As such, let’s all give him a nice round of applause for his blog, Attytood. Tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of Attytood, one of the rare political blogs that uses complete sentences and coherent thoughts. Even if you disagree with Bunch, you can get through his entire argument without wanting to tear your hair out, which is a rare trait in any opinion columnists or bloggers. (Or, really, anyone with an opinion.)

As part of his one-year anniversary, Bunch is promising a shocker later today:

Here’s a major programming note. We’re going to celebrate the one-year birthday (!!) of Attytood, which is tomorrow, a few hours early. We’re going to be posting a link to a major, Attytood-produced story for a national publication that could shake up the tectonic plates, regarding an upcoming election…. come back sometime after 5 p.m. It’ll be worth the wait…we think.

Very cryptic here. Attytood-produced? What exactly does that mean? What election could it shake up? Will I come back to Attytood after 5 p.m. to find out what candidate slept with what deceased male prostitute?

Kudos, though, on not writing this major story for the Daily News. You wouldn’t want a small circulation spike or anything — Knight Ridder would probably get greedy and lay off another 50 or so people in response.
