Brady To Make SEPTA Financially Solvent With Brute Force

073007brady.jpg

Although SEPTA got dedicated funding from the state in Rendell’s new budget, it’s not like SEPTA cars are going to be used as vaults for gold doubloons anytime soon. (Now that would make a fun ride.)

In a quest for one day being able to provide that Scrooge McDuck-esque trip, SEPTA recently accepted advertising from (gasp!) liquor companies, including a pair of buses with Colt 45 wraps. This angered the Rev. Jesse Brown, who battles corner beer stores. He also feels the unfulfilled promises of Colt 45 advertisements — trust me, it does not get ‘em every time — cut into the unfulfilled promises the church provides. (Bada-bing!)

Anyway, the politicians are in on it, too: City Councilman Jim Kenney is pretty angry about it, as is U.S. Congressman Bob Brady, who says he’ll get those wraps off the buses if he has to go door-to-door himself and sell new ads:

So Brady has fired off a letter to the SEPTA board, offering to find a better advertiser if they unwrap the buses: “Unwrap the two buses, and I will help find other advertisers. I’m sure there are other people out there who would love to advertise on a bus.”

I look forward to the replacement of the Colt 45 ads with ones for heroin detoxification, expedited citizenship, Allen Rothenberg: The Injury Lawyer and, of course, VIGILANTE LAWYER, who apparently defends you outside of the law.

City Residents Soon To Be Blinded With Ads

Toilet

The pay toilet that has been letting you shit on City Hall since last November will soon have a bunch of friends in town: The City of Philadelphia will soon choose from one of three companies to install street furniture in the city.

The street furniture — benches, bus stops, newsstands, honor box corrals, trashcans, advertising kiosks (sadly) and, of course, toilets — will make whichever company wins the bidding a lot of money from advertising. The city will get a bunch of money, too, which will be evenly distributed among city citizens and also given to the poor. Or they’ll pave the sidewalks with platinum and buy John Street a space shuttle.

The city did ask the companies to create a uniform look for the city’s street furniture, so all our ads will be color-coded. The company who wins the right to put giant ads in Center City will also be allowed the right to complain about Frost/El Toro and Bob Will Reign, who aren’t big companies paying for the right to put graffiti in the city.

Meanwhile, one of the bidders is a group that includes Clear Channel and two former press aides to Mayor Street. I look forward to their ugly street furniture.

Lawyers trolling Craigslist for something other than sex

And here I thought Craigslist was only for racism, spam and photos of guys’ dicks:

Have you been sexually harrassed in the MLM industry? Do beautiful women flirt, peak, reveal, tease, but it never seems to go anywhere? Or are pretty women given as rewards for high performance sales? Are sexually-charged encounters used to drive up your frustration level so you’ll buy more products, or to destabilize your mind so they can brainwash you?

Such tactics are against Federal Workplace Discrimination Law. We all have a right to a harrassment-free workplace as well as professional encounters where the responsibility to care for clients does not include sexual advances.

If you are a male who has been sexually harrassed during Multi Level Marketing Company encounters, please respond to this ad with a few details, first names only for the time being. Not sure if Class Action is possible, but it should be seriously explored. Let’s assemble the facts, your replies are kept in strictest confidence.

Wow. If you can get in trouble for using sex to sell something, the entire advertising industry is ruined.
