58 Homers + 149 RBI + 37 IBB + .313 AVG = 1 MVP
Finally, some good Philadelphia sports news today: Ryan Howard has won the NL MVP. As you can tell from the headline, Howard hit .313 this year with 58 homers and 149 RBI. He also was intentionally walked 37 times, including at least once when he led off the inning. Ryan Howard fun facts! He’s the third player to win the MVP and the Home Run Derby in the same season. He’s also the career leader for most home runs without a stolen base. He’s the fourth Phillie to win the award, joining Mike Schmidt — who won it three times — Jim Konstanty (1950) and Chuck Klein (1932). And he’s only 27. Let’s keep those ACLs tear-free, okay, Ryan?
