A letter to Santa Claus

Dear Santa,

If you get me anything in this collection…

… for Christmas, I’ll come up to the North Pole and shove some reindeer antlers up your ass.

Sincerely
Danny McQuade

P.S. I’ve been a good boy this year.

Puppies!

Somebody asked for “more puppies,” and I aim to please:

Enjoy!

Oh, those Brits, they’re behind on everything

This has little to nothing to do with Philadelphia — okay, really “nothing” — but I found it on NBC 10, and I can make a tasteless joke about it, so I’m going to go ahead and write about this creepy story:

An Eminem impersonator who beat a woman to death and stuffed her body in a suitcase is facing life in prison.

Christopher Duncan, 21, has the same hair style and tattoos as the rapper. He pleaded guilty in London on Thursday to killing 26-year-old law student Jagdip Najran.

A prosecutor said they met at a karaoke bar last year. Duncan took Najran back to his apartment and beat her over the head with an iron baseball bat until she fell unconscious, then stuffed her body into a suitcase. Duncan reportedly told police he was high on Ecstasy and LSD at the time.

In the video for Eminem’s “Stan,” an obsessive fan ties up his girlfriend, throws her in the trunk of his car and drives it over a bridge.

Okay, the killing is creepy enough, as is the Eminem impersonation, but a copycat killing of “Stan” is just untimely. I think that song was popular when I was in high school.

Jim Acton, terrorizing readers for over 80 years

Jim Acton of collegeville has been writing stupid unfunny letters to the Daily News for approximately the paper’s entire existence, which is fine, because, you know, it’s a letters page and if people want to try to be funny, that’s fine. (They could, alternatively, start a blog, but I digress.)

But today’s letter hits a little low:

Back off, man.

Quickies: People like it when you’ve been hyped by both alt-weeklies for the past few months and then you bail on a show one song in, they really do

• Both members of Badminton Stamps were at the Lady Sovereign concert last night. Things turned sour when, oh, she decided the sound system at Silk City sucked and left the stage after one song. I know the fact nobody rioted is a good thing, but, come on, that woulda been pretty cool. [Badminton Stamps]

• Another sign this town loves its football team a little too much: The pairing of Bach and the Eagles on Monday night. Actually, I think it’s pretty cool. [KYW 1060]

• It’s the hip newest trend, and it keeps on rocking: 14-year-old robbin’ college kids in University City! Whoo! Feel the spirit! [Daily Pennsylvanian]

• Apparently, the Inquirer forgot to cite the Houston Chronicle for a quote, and they didn’t correct it. And that means they’re evil, nasty reporters as bad as Jason Blair or Judy Miller! It also means they’re lazy. [Superchefblog via Philly Future]

• Breaking: The pope has suspended the limbo! [The Good Reverend]

• Oh yeah, and here’s a quiz: Who said it, George W. or Woody Allen? [Johnny Goodtimes]

Coming this weekend: Snow!!!

I couldn’t think of a better headline than just “Snow!!!” — because that, according to Philadelphia Weather, is what we’re getting this weekend:

My call: Slightly more than 1″ for Philadelphia Sunday AM…
If you like snow, you’re going to love Friday AM’s GFS run. 6-12″ for Philadelphia and vicinity if this model plays out.

Since I’m no longer driving or shoveling, I’m more inclined to like the snow model that includes 6 to 12 inches! Woohoo! Philadelphia Weather notes this could get knocked out by the “jetstream” and that the 6-to-12 inch prediction is very preliminary, but in fine Philadelphia weather journalism tradition, I’m going to ignore all that. Philadelphia Will Do is predicting 18 inches of snow this weekend, and all the puppydogs playing it will be oh so cute.

Hooray!

Chestnut Hill Local, the newspaper that sounds like a train

From this week’s Chestnut Hill Local:

Yea, that headline is worded awful strangely. But what’s more confusing is that people have actually set up fake websites for the Chestnut Hill Local? How many people could they actually scam? Usually these things tend to try you to put in your information for Paypal, a major bank, Amazon.com, etc. But the Local? How is that worth the effort?

I can’t imagine what they’d do with him

And now, your daily Metro person-on-the-street interview response of the day:

Hm. Exiling him to Kuwait. This is either fantastically brilliant or really stupid. I really can’t decide.

“I like the way they dribble up and down the court”

From a Modell’s ad in the Metro today:

I want to meet the advertising guy who said, “Put the dorky white guy doing the ridiculous pose in front, please!”

The really really super Friday poll

NBC 10’s and Philly.com’s Super Friday Poll:

After those famous photos, we all know the answer is most certainly dorm life at Penn.
