Christine Flowers: What’s so amazing about Bush’s presidency is the best “success” of the Bush administration Christine Flowers can come up with is — I shit you not — he kept us safe from terrorism. You know, because nothing happened after that one huge terrorist attack, it means we’re all warm and fuzzy and safe now. Because all we had was one huge terrorist attack. Thanks, President Bush!

Elmer Smith: Wow, did Bernie Madoff steal money from Elmer Smith directly or something? Oh, no, I see, he’s really mad at Madoff because employees in Fairfield, Conn., might lose their pension. Yeah, that sucks for them, but, um…

Its amazing how the President somehow manages to protect 300,000,000+ individual lives like that!

    Thanks President Bush!

To be fair, once I read a list of criticisms of Bush and one of them was “failing to stop the DC sniper.” Which, if Bush had done himself, would have been pretty cool.

But, yeah, is “no terrorist attacks since 9/11″ really the best people can come up with to sum up Bush? This is like when people say Reagan did a good job fighting the War on Drugs. Just when you fight a war on something with lots of firepower doesn’t mean you made things safer, or improved the quality of life, or whatever.

Also that list that had the DC sniper on it also included “trading Sammy Sosa.”

The best part of the Flowers column is where she justifies the use of torture because the UN convention against torture is “so vague.” Then she makes the point that the Bush administration’s version of torture wasn’t as bad as Saddam Hussein’s version of torture….
