Price Is Right Perfect Bid Scandal!

Earlier this week, a guy on the Price is Right got a final showcase bid exactly correct. How amazing is that!? Here’s the clip:

You might notice that Drew Carey wasn’t really all that excited about the dude getting the bid exactly correct. Well, yeah, this was the angle on TMZ last night, which made fun of Drew Carey for not being all excited. (No, I don’t usually watch TMZ, but I do have a just-as-embarrassing near-daily habit, the Fox 5 o’clock news and it was on afterward, and the intro promo mentioned a game show. Of course I left it on.)

Turns out that, um, maybe things aren’t as above-board as they seem:

My search led me to this Price is Right website. After reading through thirteen pages I found that, basically, a poster named “Ted” admits he was in the audience that day and was feeding the contestant the answers. In fact, earlier in the show this same contestant hit an exact bid on contestants row while taking “Ted’s” advice. “Ted,” apparently has been in the audience numerous times and has actually been on the show twice. He states that the prizes are often recycled and he has memorized the retail prices. He admits it is not fool proof because the prices often fluctuate from show to show, but that day it did not. I should add after reading through thirteen pages, everyone on that website seems to know “Ted” and no one doubts his story.

Um, so of course there is a website where people discuss The Price is Right for hours on end, and of course it’s golden-road.net. Right. And of course there is a guy who memorized all the retail prices of the prizes. And of course this whole thing was sorta cheating, I guess.

But what’s best of all is that the first time I watch TMZ in forever, their lead story is (1) a result on The Price is Right — it is December — and (2) from a completely wrong angle. Thanks, guys, I appreciate it.

Update: If you prefer the “Main Stream Media” for your game show news, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is hot on the case as well.

I want the minute and seventeen seconds back. Why the hell did I watch all of this? And why does Drew hate that nice man?

I watched that show. I think Drew was upset/uneasy about the second exact bid. I heard on the news that there was a thirty minute delay in the show as he and the producers had a conference about the bids. Before the final was announced.

I think CBS Standards and Practices might end up banning audience help period due to this. When the show first started out, you didn’t hear audience members shouting out bids to the contestants. But then again, that’s what makes the show have such a lively atmosphere. If audience help is banned for all games (One-Bid, pricing games, Showcases), it could end up destroying that lively atmosphere which TPIR depends on, and that could mean the end of TPIR period.

I was on the price is right on may 20th 2008. I came on down, made it to the stage. Drew Carey gave me $500.and told me that I could Keep the money no matter what happen I stop and ask him he said yes. After I lost A producer pull me to the side and said Drew Carey made A mistake Thats why I had to give the money back that made me so sad .From the studio I went to the rest room so many people followed me inside to tell me that Drew Carey cheated me out of my $500. When I got back home I stop watching the show that I loved. On 12-29-2008 I was in walgreen store and saw on the Globe the price is right CHEATING SCANDAL THAT UPSET ME AGAIN . I feel that Drew Carey is not right for that show to many mistakes SORRY! He should be fired. MY Feelings are not set right with that show yet. I hope many other people dont have to feel what that show made me feel. Please dont think I am feeling bad becouse I didnt win. Darth Chaos said “When the show first started out, you didn’t hear audience members shouting out bids to the contestants.”

Um, you weren’t watching the show when it “first started out” 36 years ago. Don’t lie and claim you were.

Second, I most definitely WAS watching as early as 1975, and the audience sure as F**K DID call out bids.

So your claim that “CBS Standards and Practices might end up banning audience help period due to this” sounds pretty ridiculous.
