Class Optional At Temple

Today’s Temple News has a story about class attendance — or, rather, lack of it. It seems nobody goes to class in college anymore. Hmm. One might call yours truly a trailblazer.

What’s great, though, is even though nobody goes to class Temple kids are still getting ridiculously high grades. Law professor David Adamany explains:

Adamany said reports on Temple grading practices several years ago showed 74 percent of undergraduate grades are ‘A’s or ‘B’s. Some Temple academic programs have higher percentages than others.

“Yet class attendance is spotty, so many students earning high grades are not regularly attending,” he said.

High schoolers: May I suggest applying to Temple?

This is why college degrees are useless. It’s so crazy. I remember when i was in college and professors were complaining about students being horrible consumers, that they were paying for an education and never showing up. I never thought of it that way, because college is almost compulsory. Maybe students see it as paying for the degree and not the education.

whatever i am done being serious

Why did I waste $20k and two years in an attempt to get a real degree from PSU only to be done in by the delights of the flesh in State College, where I could have gone to Temple, stayed in an be done in by the delights of the flesh on Broad Street, and gotten an A?

It’s true. A lot of people pay so much yet don’t go to class…or should I say, their parents. I sure as hell have everything under my name and am paying for it now (meaning loans not figuratively haha).

Then when you get out of college, employers ask, “Experience?” How the hell am I going to get experience if you don’t offer. Sheeeesh. Oh well, I got a great job now :)

As a recent Temple computer science grad, I can say this is definitely not my experience. My senior year, we had a class that someone failed 4 semesters in a row. My freshman class in my major was roughly 200 people and only 6 of them ended up graduating after 5 years. All of the science based majors at Temple generally share the same experience (aka, failing classes like crazy and struggling to make it to the next semester). Maybe this is referring to some joke liberal arts program that they run?

“Students who do not regularly attend class still claim to do well enough with their grades.”

Haha. Oh, I see. They’re in denial that they’re going to fail out.
