PMH EVP’s Sleek Sports Car
Times are tough in the journalism industry. Everyone has to make sacrifices. Whatever. Tell that to Philadelphia Media Holdings executive vice president Mark Frisby, who has a shiny new Maserati, according to a tipster who passed along this photo. Shouldn’t it be shinier if it’s brand new? Tsk, tsk. I wouldn’t tell the former publisher of The Courier Post (a Gannett paper, naturally) to avoid buying new toys in this time of fiscal crisis; after all, I just got Wii Fit a few weeks ago. But considering a lot of the rank-and-file at PMH considers him a henchman brought to fire people, I might suggest passing on the vanity plate next time. |

Well he didn’t spring the $20 to get his vanity plate remade. What a cheapskate!
P.S. The Captcha thing is discriminatory against dyslexics. I have seen the smug asshole who came up with the thing and it should be mandatory to suckerpunch the SOB!
Sweet ride! Reminds me of a riddle…
Q: How many $25 givebacks does it take to pay for a Maserati?
A: All of them.
Totally saw dude driving up 13th yesterday and had no idea — now I feel all foolish! Anyway, he probably shouldn’t be driving a brand new Maserati in Philly when my stupid 1997 Honda Civic has been broken into twice. Just sayin’ is all.
If you’re going to be the corporate asshole hatchet man, you should have a car that matches. This is a pretty good fit, I think.
Sure this doesn’t belong to Mister Mann Frisby, late of the Daily News
@jmb: I was going to mention him, but he left so long ago I didn’t think anyone would get the reference.
Ah, so that’s why a new security camera has been installed pointing directly at his parking spot.
And I’m guessing somebody has ordered that the surveillance tapes be reviewed to find out who took this photo.
I got your back on those obscure references, yo. Which makes me very sad for the lost brain capacity taken up by them.
Hmmm … interesting photo. I’m busting my ass to get that Inky pig to fly and Frisby wouldn’t even take a raise deferment. Worst of all, he swore to me that he was buying a Daewoo.
Don’t you love it. These suits with no vision who have put the newspaper industry into the straits it is in now either keep their jobs and profit or leave and become deans and department heads to train future journalists in the no-vision thing.
whoever the idiot is who took the picture, i guess, didn’t notice that you can see her in the reflection of the car with her yellow dress on and a guy next to her with a short sleeve white shirt on. and it’s pretty obvious that it’s a newsroom asshole since the first sentence mentions jounalism. i guess you didn’t notice the cars he drove before the new one. he wasn’t exactly in a ford excort. anyone with half a brain cell would look at this and think that he obviously expects to be working for a while, which means the asshole who took the picture will be working as well. Get a life loser or better yet, quit and find a job that will allow you to someday buy one of your very own so you don’t have to take pictures of someelses that you envy.
It’s so sad that people at your age still like to gossip. Instead of trying to figure out how many $25 givebacks does it take to pay for a Maserati? how about you look up Mr. Frisby’s track record at Gannett to let you know why he’s at the Inquirer and in the position he’s in and you aren’t. He’s there because he can get the job done. He’s there trying to save a company in an industry that isnt doing well. Also, take a look at newspapers across the country you’ll see people are being layed off left and right by the hundereds. But instead of being layed off the “henchman” is trying to save your jobs by taking a $25 pay cut you’ll get back anyway! Stop the commments and get back to your job, thats whats important. Maybe you all should figure out how can I move up to afford a Maserati!
i guess i’m a tad surprised. The same group that prides itself in ethics, integrity and facts, are the same cowards that would stand behind a mans car and send it to a crap blog that would UFO sightings if sent to them. i’ve always enjoyed the inquirer and daily news but now i will question if what they are printing is printed out of jealousy, a grudge or is it a story that has the fundementals that i’ve come to expect (it all appears suspect now). i don’t know frisby but i’m sure he must look at this and think why bother to help these poor dumb assholes that would take time out of their day (probably on his dime) and go take a picture of his car. did anyone follow him home yet and take a picture of his house. if so, make sure you go through his mail to verify it’s his house. if it’s true that you can see the people in the reflection of the car, all i can say is good luck if he finds out. i’m sure someone will notice the assholes in the reflection and let frisby know exactly who they are. So although you were too much of a coward to post your name with the photo, you left behind some pretty stupid evidence. It’s like the guy robbing the 7-11 and leaving behind his wallet.
For all of you idiots that think Mr. Frisby is out to layoff workers, you couldn”t be more wrong!!! I hope you get the stories you write in the Inquirer and Daily News are more accurate and have better insight than these stupid blogs you all wrote. His goal along with everyone else who runs that company is to weather a newspaper storm so when it”s over we”ll have better days and have jobs. His moves are for a greater cause so maybe we”ll have jobs over the next 5 - 10 years and even more importantly have a company that our children will be able to work at someday. Incidently my children now would be able to make a better read on what’s going on today that most of you asshole adults who have completely missed the big picture. Frisby is a real smart and fair guy, you”re all lucky he’s here and might realize that when your getting w2 forms at the end of 2009 and 2010 and beyond. This is not about a man’s car(which he has earned and has every right to buy). This is about all of you missing the big picture that he has confidence in the future of Philadelphia Holdings and trusts very much that it will be around for along time and support a lot of families and the readers in our area. The big picture is not a nice car it is about employees actually getting on the companie’s team in a real and genuine way. Personally I am glad Mark frisby is helping lead this company through these tough times, he will be one of the reasons we”ll be around when the good economic times come back again. And then maybe some of you will be able to buy a nice car with vanity plates that will say somthing like “used to be stupid”
You just don’t get it do you? This isn’t about Frisby’s car. And it isn’t about layoffs. And it isn’t about weather Mark Frisby is doing a good job or not. It’s about Class and Discretion and common sense and most of all it is about Mark Frisby’s judgement. People have just given up a raise to try to save their jobs. And these same people are scared to death every day, wondering if they will still have a job. There just seems to be a complete lack of class when under these conditions, the man who ask these people to give up those raises, parks a new $110,000 car in a garage where all those workers have to pass it everyday. You can buy an expensive car, but all the money in the world won’t buy you Class.
are you serious? Class? you can look at him and his car and say he doesn’t have class? have you ever dealt with him? obviously not. why don’t you just save yourself some stress and not walk by the car? did you notice that he was driving a $80 or $90,000 car before this one? did he lack class then too? did you ever give thought to the fact maybe he sees a future at the Inky and Daily News and the car may be a vote of confidense. this isn’t about class, this is about envy and jealousy and you are pretty pathectic to even use that word. i’m personally proud that my publisher drives a nice car because it shows he’s planning on being around for a while which means i’ll be around for a while. i’ve dealt with him as recently as last week and “lack of class” is not how id describe him. you must be the dumb ass in the yellow dress who took the picture…..now that is class, isn’t it? you news people are too much, no wonder people dont want to deal with you.
Yo Surpised,
Frisby, the guy you spoke to last week, is actually the executive VP. Tierney is publisher.
By the way, in April, Tierney was quoted saying, ““The worst part of this experience has been the culture of the business side, particularly in advertising sales.”
He also said, “The business side has let down the journalistic side of newspapers.”
The dude is blaming you, pal, not the journalists.
(If you are interested, here’s the full story - http://www.portfolio.com/views/columns/2008/04/14/Howell-Raines-on-Buying-Newspapers)
By the way, driving an $80,000 car makes you just as much of a douchebag as driving a $110,000 Maserati. You can’t buy class.
dumb chick in yellow, Tierney is the publisher of the Inquirer. Frisby is my boss and the publisher of the Daily News, in addition to EVP of Phila Media Holdings…..i guess your were too busy taking pictures that you missed the memo. I am well aware of what Tierney said on the advertising side and i guess that’s the reason that many of my former co-workers arent around anymore, it was about time that they took the dead wood out of here….now, if he’ll just start taking the deadwood out of the news side we’ll be in good shape (that would be the Inquirer newsroom of course). Since you do nothing but whine and obviously have too much time on your hands taking pictures (you can’t be too productive), maybe we’ll get lucky and they take you out with the next round of layoffs. i wouldn’t wear that yellow dress again anytime soon if i were you, you talk about class but when you take a picture and show yourself in the reflection now we’re talking about stupid which obviously you are. and speaking of class, you send a photo to a blog? that’s real classy, good luck in your next job you dirtbag (i could tell that by your photo).
I work on the business side and have seen a lot of honchos come and go. Here is a local guy that gives a shit, that has raised his kids here, and has family here. He is highly regarded and works hard. Who gives a shit that he bought himself a new ride? I know 2 people on the biz side that have bought nice cars within the last month of so. WTF is the problem? Becasue he has the unenviable job of having to deal with all of the Unions? Please…Frankly, I’m glad he bought this and NOT a Civic as that may have meant we were all on the way out! My only gripe is I can’t afford one…yet.
Hey, “Surpised,” funny you should mention layoffs … weren’t you the one who said there wouldn’t BE any layoffs? Or are you too busy whining about the “deadwood” that you don’t bother paying attention to the nonsense that you’re typing?
By the way, technically there are two R’s in “surprised.” And what’s with all the name-calling? One would almost think you don’t have anything better to say. Or you’re not very bright.
Just for the record, if you’re really confused about why anyone cares what kind of car Mark Frisby drives, it’s because when people are about to lose their jobs — and many already have — it’s sort of bad form to flaunt a brand new $100,000 sports car. Especially for the guy who’s ultimately going to fire them.
Hey Short Sleeve White Shirt Guy, what the hell blog are you reading? which one of my comments said their wouldn’t be any layoffs? i am #5 away from a layoff now so why would i say that. as far as the name calling, when assholes like you make shit up>>>>>there goes the name calling
Nice car Mr. Frisby and good luck with it. i agree with the posting that says they’re glad you didn’t buy a civic. although i drive a civic, i’d trad with you anyday and i’d park it right up front and be damn proud of it. the guys on this blog are jealous because even if they could afford one, they know their wives wouldnt let them. the women on here are obviously inquirer newsroom women and no more needs to be said about that…..however there is a pretty newsroom woman who also drive a Maserati. i wonder if anyone gave her any shit.?
My sincere apologies, “Surpised.” I guess I got you confused with all the other Frisby defenders who say he’s saving jobs, not eliminating them. Such as “doesnt matter,” who shares your aol web address and said this: “anyone with half a brain cell would look at this and think that he obviously expects to be working for a while, which means the asshole who took the picture will be working as well.” (Helpful hint: If you’re trying to pretend to be three different people, you might want to change the web address every time.)
And “jealous,” gosh, got some issues there, huh buddy? Maybe you should talk to your buddies “Surpised” and “doesnt matter” about your need to identify with a wealthier man and your gender-related trauma.
it’s not changing names moron. it’s the topic that is used as the name. can you process that in your one brain cell? not to mention the fact that six of my co-workers were here talking about petty people like yourself, funny how they all think like i do and the others here. you’re the minority which is probably what you’re used to by now. you should ask your one friend what they think. i don’t look at things like identifying with a wealthier man, i look at it as identifying with a person. my co-workers actually wanted to use their real name but why give you an advantage to start targeting them with your jealousy and lies
Seriously, “changing names” multiple personality guy — seek professional assistance. This isn’t a joke. You need help. You do know that multiple personalities are a sign of psychosis, right?
And no, it’s not “the topic that is used as the name.” Did you notice the “changing names Says” thingie at the start of your comment? No, I didn’t think you did. It wasn’t covered in Hooked On Phonics.
If I was him I would not lay anyone off. Just blow up the picture and figure out who the asshole is that started this is an between their two jobs, it should get rid of the $25 gap. As for all the rest on this blog, get back to work, do your job and go home. This is why the paper is having bad times. People like you are so worried about other people that your affraid to do your job. It is easy to blame people who have something for your lot in life. Work the hours he does. Stay away from home like he does. Stop coming in late and leaving early and do your job.
I work for the newspaper and I’m glad he had the panache to buy a Maserati over a Mercedes SL-600 AMG, valued at about the same price. Where is the creativity in buying an MB? Had he just thrown his money down on an MB no one probably would have noticed. Nothing against MB but it’s no Maserati. Funny story. Cousin of mine had bought a MB CL-500 and he let me drive it. After I brought it back I told him the girls were not jumping in the windows and it didn’t make me feel like my member was bigger. For a car guy a Maserati screams style.
Nice car Mark good luck with it. You work hard to get it.
It’s ashame that some people think that someone else’s success means their failure. Mr. Frisby works hard and deserves that car.
I’m sure this cutback will benefit you in the long run and when that time comes, I wish you the maturity to apologize to Mr. Frisby for the negative things you say. This is a hard-working man, he has ALWAYS worked very hard at everything he does. He certainly didn’t get to be where he is today due to Blogging negatively about his Boss. MOST certainly couldn’t of got there by WASTING his time snapping pictures of the car his Boss drives. By the way, don’t worry Miss Photographer, hopefully, someday you’ll be able to get the car of your dreams too. Something tells me you’ll go with the color green.
Don’t be so quick to find the negative when the POSITIVE is staring right at you! There are SO MANY PEOPLE losing there jobs right now, YOU are NOT one of them, THANKS to YOUR BOSS, Mr. Frisby!
Speak, SPECIAL K. Nicely said!
I worked with Mark for 6 years at a Gannett newspaper. He’s smart and recognizes the harsh realities of a business trying to remain relevant. Is anyone tired of all the class envy in our society? The newspaper industry is suffering because of market conditions and the steady advance of other media models. Ultimately, there are no henchman to blame but if you want to take pot-shots at the people with the big jobs and the requisite responsibility in an effort to make yourself feel better, you need to assess your own character. I’ve worked in this business for 23 years and have a nice home and an Acura; I don’t have a Maserati becuase I wasn’t willing to work harder and endure the higher levels of stress. Whoever took that picture is just a bitter person who can’t see the forest for the trees. Piss off.
