Wacky SEPTA Rider Hits Man WIth Hammer
Around eight years ago, a homeless man from Nebraska went up to the Liberty Bell and hit it with a hammer. (This was before 9/11. Now, he’d be shot on site for attempting to forget.) We all had a good laugh at that guy, but here’s another hammer attack that’s not quite as fun: This one dude on the subway attacked another dude on the Broad Street Subway. The attacker had a small child with him; cops say after talking to the child, he reached into his bag, pulled out a “double-claw hammer” and hit some sleeping dude with it. The attack spilled out onto the Fairmount platform, but the dude who was just minding his own business stayed on the subway and rode to Temple Hospital. This is faster than waiting for an ambulance, and since this happened midnight on Thursday, the Fairmount stop was certainly closed early like it always is. He escaped serious injury. The Daily News and the police seem mostly concerned nobody random on the train stopped to help take down the “psycho” with the hammer. I guess if somebody had stopped the dude on the subway there’d be less work for them to do? The Daily News, I mean.
Aww, it’s our own little Kitty Genovese story! Only, you know, without a dead white woman to further people’s outrage. So, you know, next time a dude with a hammer attacks somebody on the subway and you’re there, you can jump on his back and try to stop him. In the meantime, feel free to complain about the subway passengers on the Philly.com comments with the dude who wrote this, “what a bunch of pussies on that train, every one of you are cowards. and you should all throw your self in front of the next train you are near.” Oh, and this other dude calls for the “Hell’s Angels,” somehow confusing ‘em with these guys. People probably did not help because the attacker was bigger than everyone. However, there are probably other ways to help like AT&T users being able to call underground.
However, what I want to know is if this happened Thursday, today is…Tuesday. ’nuff said.
I think the footage was released yesterday.
And, AT&T customers can only make calls on the Market-Frankford line, I think. (Not sure if cellular tech allows everyone to be able to make emergency calls no matter the cell phone company it is an exclusive contract, after all; would be nice but probably not.)
We the people of Philadelphia have become so scary and afraid to fight back. How is it that all those big men that were on the train ran away in stead of fighting the hammer bandit. How is it that the people aboard the airplane on 9/11 did something, but the 10 people on the orange line did nothing. We are talking about a hammer people not a “hammer aka Gun”. You can’t even mind your own business any more without some other individual who’s not having a good day, begin to attack you. Bad enough we pay $2.00 or more to ride the crummy train, but have to constently look over our shoulders at other passangers. And lets not talk about these teenagers who are victimizing others. Bottle line, take it back to the old school and start getting those leather belts and tree branches and “beat dat A#$”.
3 guys tried to jack me in the middle of the day on the Broad line around Girard. I fought with them for a minute before they bolted at Cecil B Moore. The train was full but nobody helped or said anything until after they bolted. This city sucks.
the problem is people are pussies, and there’s a DA out there ready to prosecute for every vigilante who takes justice into his own hands. in a perfect world it would be like back in the old west, and some ol’ cowboy would have shot him dead in his tracks. one less piece of shit that we need on this planet earth.

You guys want people to get involved ? What are the gun laws like for concealed carry in Philly ? If you’re not going to let me carry you can not ask me to attempt to do battle with a larger person that has a hammer. I’ll try to call 911 but the victim may be dead before the police arrive.
