Great Wawa Massacre Of 2008 Continues
Johnny Goodtimes is reporting that the Wawa at 20th and Chestnut is closing at the end of the month. I’m too lazy to walk five blocks down to see if there’s a sign up or anything, but let’s just assume it’s true. And let’s assume this is true also: He writes all the Center City Wawas will be leaving when their leases are up — even my beloved Jefferson Hospital location?! — and that Wawa hates us. Well, duh, they’re a business. But why just leave Center City? Naturally, the twentysomething white people of in and around Center City will not be standing for this |

You should put photos of Alycia Lane in a bikini on all center city wawas so they don’t close.
This doesn’t make any sense - that Wawa in particular is constantly mobbed. Like, always, always busy. How does that business decision make any money to close a top-performing store?
If they close that Jefferson wawa, I’m never going to another wawa again. Unless I’m hungry.
Yeah, if you could do some investigative reporting on why they’re closing (could Philly be getting even LESS friendly to business?) that would be swell.
I use the one near Jeff or the one on Columbus Blvd nearly every day. Both are nice, clean stores and always busy. Would be a shame to loose one or both. What replaced the Wawa at 2nd and Carpenter is just nasty.
If they close all the Wawas in the city, where will find free, safe ATM machines and delicious hoagies at 2:30AM?
It could be they want to focus on continuing to open Super Wawas. Usually (at least here in the burbs) when a regular Wawa closes, a Super Wawa opens up in a location nearby. I’m fine with this; they usually have the cheapest gas.

Super Wawas are such a bad business concept anyway. Great for 5 years ago, but not with gas prices that will rise FOREVER AND NEVER GO DOWN AGAIN.
I guess closing a store in order to open a new one that offers more services nearby makes sense. It’s kind of hard to open a super wawa in center city, though, so I fail to see what the plan is with these closings. It’s almost like wawa can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.
I was there when they closed down the last Wawa in Camden. I wasn’t there for the homicides just before that.
