Philadelphia Will Do

Cease And Desist This!

Earlier this week, the Washington Post’s Mike Wise wrote an extremely strange column about how the NHL should cheat and let the Capitals advance in the playoffs and how Flyers fans are big meanies.

Trust me, the Flyers’ “Vengeance Now” slogan is pretty freaking weird, but that doesn’t excuse ridiculous columns that include things like, “Five minutes into the game, they showed a video of Philly’s top brawls this past season, many involving Cote grabbing hold of an opponents’ shirt for leverage before pummeling him to the ice, which is just a swell environment for children — children of Patrick Roy. [Ed: Ex-goalie Roy encouraged his son to fight in a game recently.] They flat-out market and sell violence here, sanctioned, unbridled assaults disguised as sport.”

The Flyers came up with a fantastic response: Hand out 20,000 copies of this column at the game to fans. Hilarious! But the Washington Post is apparently a humorless organization full of people worrying about the children and the copyrights, because they sent the Flyers a cease-and-desist letter in order to nix the promotion.

No matter. The Flyers rallied from a 3-2 deficit and won on a rebound goal by Mike Knuble in the second overtime to go up 3-1 in the best-of-seven series. Word is the Post attempted to issue a cease-and-desist letter before the rebound, claiming they had copyrighted rebound shots back in the 1930s.

Video after the jump.

    Proof that WaPo is humorless:

On a different note, “Vengeance Now” is a much better slogan than what the Phillies have this season, which I believe is “Go For It!”

My prediction: “The 2009 Phillies: YAAAAY”
