76ers Robbed At Whistlepoint
The 76ers defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers last night, 90-89, but then David Stern called up and said he wanted the Cavs to have home-court advantage in the first round so Lebron James will be in the playoffs longer, so the referees went back and made up a foul in order to screwjob the 76ers out of a win, 91-90. Okay, maybe that’s not how it happened. But if the referees can review a foul call to see if it occurred before the expiration of the clock — which was definitely true, though I don’t think it was a foul — why can’t they go back and review Lebron James for taking more steps down the lane than the Art Museum has? The loss means the 76ers are locked in to the No. 7 seed and will play the Detroit Pistons in the first round. The team was visibly pissed after the game; Andre Miller kicked the ball up into the air á la Nick Nolte in Blue Chips and then threw the ball into the stands. But the best part is when a fan yells right before the second free throw to the referee: “That’s robbery! You should go to jail for that!” Tremendously entertaining (and so Philly) video after the jump.

That is easily the worst piece of officiating I have ever seen. They kept showing that replay, and there was Lebron James taking three fucking steps down the lane. No traveling called on the superstar, though. Just a bullshit foul on an out of control player who was putting up a desperation shot with .2 seconds left.
This is the exact reason why people do not like the NBA anymore. Too much shit like this seems to happen. The team that hustles and works their asses off get screwed in the end by the team with the superstar who hosted Saturday Night Live. Fuck your brand image, NBA. Reward teams for their hard work.
Andre Miller should have punted that ball right into David Stern’s face.
I am not upset about this loss in any way at all.
check out this! We was really robbed!

Unfair, perhaps, but it was definitely by the book. The whistle blew for the foul on Brown and so, by rule, it had to be reviewed. If anything, the ref should have not blown the whistle - but with contact that so obviously affects the shot, how can you make the argument that that is fair?
Has anyone mentioned that Dalembert fouls Brown because HE IS PUSHED INTO BROWN BY ILGAUSKAS. Watch the replay again. He clearly shoves Sam.
If I was Cheeks, my play after the free throws would have been to have my inbounder throw the ball directly at the head of a referee.
Lets hope the refs are just getting this out of their system before the playoffs. The irony is two of the crew are from Philly.

Great call by the ref’s. at least it was reviewd and definately a foul, no matter how or why. It interfered with Brown making a winning basket.

I am not a fan of the sixers, but damn you guys got ROBBED. The NBA clearly acts in the interest of not only their star players, but the teams that those players star players play on. Lebron is a great player but the breaks that HE and his team receive are ridiculous. How could the refs review it so much and completely miss the fact that Dalembert was shoved by ILGAUSKAS. Ilgauskas not only puts his forearm into Dalembert back he also props his knee to help push Dalembert forward. And to no surprise it is ILGAUSKAS who is pointing out the foul that he just HELPED Dalembert commit.
I hate the threatment that the NBA gives Lebron, but now it is passing on to the team. Even Brown himself was quoting saying: “I wear 33,” Brown said, “not 23.”
Which IMPLIES that he is completely aware of the fact that Lebron will get the calls and he was shocked that he got the call.
