Nutter Calls For Truce Between City Workers, Residents

021508nutter.jpg

Michael Nutter would very much like it if you weren’t such a dick to city employees, please?

“Quite honestly, sometimes the public is not as nice as they could be when they encounter a public employee. All of this is about how we treat each other. It doesn’t cost anything to be nice to someone. It doesn’t cost anything to demonstrate mutual respect. Treat people the way you want to be treated.”

Oh, man. Who knew Michael Nutter was Jesus, telling us to turn the other cheek, to love one another as ourselves. Call me a Doubting Thomas, though. I’ll need to see some water-into-wine action before I believe.

Nutter Wants to Apply the ‘Golden Rule’ to City Hall [KYW 1060]

  1. friendlynerd Says: Feb 15 12:50 PM

Michael, I love you, but are you fucking serious? Do you really think it’s the residents’ fault that city workers are generally lazy, incompetent, and rude?

I always start my interactions with respect but if I’m disrespected, as I always have been by city workers, I’ll give it right back, thankyouverymuch.

  2. nipsey russell Says: Feb 15 1:15 PM

i’, with nerd. if nutter wants to make nice, great, i would love to deal with friendly city employees and will return any such kindness. but if he is seriously going to start laying blame with the residents/customers he is definitely not just nuts but nutter! (ok, that was weak). we’ve been trained by these employees to be rude!

  3. dmac Says: Feb 15 1:30 PM

Oh, right, that part went without saying. I mean, most employees you interact with are rude, why would city employees be any better?

  4. illegally parked Says: Feb 15 2:59 PM

I will be nice to anybody that is not the PPA. Fuck the PPA. FUCK THEM FUCK THEM FUCK THEM. Oh my god, my rage is so ripe. Are they even city workers? Either way. I’m not going to get nice. At all. In fact, I think I may only get meaner. I wish a pestilence on them. Or something worse.

  5. J Says: Feb 15 8:52 PM

Considering how rude city works are to me. This one time, the woman in the SEPTA booth was sleeping when I went to get a token. When I woke her, she got all pissed off over it, grudgingly gave me a token, and then shut out the light and went back to sleep.

City workers then want MORE money for the jobs they do — even though they can’t get fired, they have the best benefits in town, and are generally lazy.

  6. bill murray Says: Feb 16 3:07 PM

Philadelphia Parking Authority = may as well be in Gestapo uniforms
SEPTA = Slacking Employees Picking Their Asses. Here’s a brilliant idea, let’s remove all of the automated ticket machines so that everyone has to wait in line to buy a ticket or pay the ridiculous surcharge on the train. You can ride the new york subway all day for $2, yet it costs me $4 to get from manayunk to conshy. bullshit.

  7. El Walker Says: Feb 16 3:36 PM

I’ve lived in Baltimore, Miami, San Juan, Chicago, NY NY, and Philly. Out of all of these, Philly has the rudest workers ever, and generally the town is a shithole.

  8. GKS Says: Feb 16 3:57 PM

The City of Brotherly Shove. They take pride in their rudeness. Their sports fans are infamously rude and obnoxious. Nutter just is trying to uphold the city’s reputation.

  9. Tom Bux Says: Feb 16 4:18 PM

As far as I know PPA are not city employees. They are sort of a farmed out private company. And they are huge asshats. It’s a wonder that anyone comes into the city at all to go shopping.

  10. pissed Says: Feb 16 4:47 PM

The PPA should have been busted by the Better Business Bureau 1000 times over. What they do and why they do it is damn near criminal.

  11. mike Says: Feb 16 6:41 PM

I don’t think PPA and SEPTA count as city employees. They receive city funding, sure, but they’re employees of a hybrid public/private entity. In SEPTA’s case, they’re closer to a state-run organization than a city-run organization.

Regardless, most true Philadelphia city employees are kind of dickish. But that’s because they’ve pretty much been trained to be that way for the past infinity years. Nutter is kind of ballsy for putting the onus on citizens, but remember that he also put the onus on city employees as well.

  12. Eric Says: Feb 16 6:50 PM

Last time I was in Philadelphia was 1989 and it sounds like things haven’t changed much. Though, bringing it back to the citizens of the City, do you guys still drive on the damned sidewalks? Seriously, it was the only city in all of the 42 states that I’ve been in that I almost got run over walking in the middle of the sidewalk, three times.

  13. Get farked Says: Feb 16 7:59 PM

FARK these unionized (read: lazy, sloppy, stupid) idiots. They are nothing but a bunch of paint-sniffing, lolcat browsing, pancake-on-a-bunny petting, black trenchcoat-wearing, asshats who think that Ric Romero is a genius while they feed their dogs steak because they are so overpaid. Taxpayers can fork over all their hard-earned income for these brain-slug infested “morans”, but still no cure for cancer. No, Philly public workers, you can’t have a brain. Not yours. Unfortunately, pretty much all public workers have the same feeling of entitlement (and sticky fingers). Philly SUCKS.

*rolls eyes* Anyone who uses a phrase like “attitude check” sounds like the smallest tool in the toolbox.
Nice comment 3 times by the way - it really demonstrates how intelligent and articulate you really are.

  19. Richard Simmons Says: Feb 17 12:03 AM

I like the feeling of city workers in my anus.

  20. Lulabelle Says: Feb 17 9:08 AM

I have had sex with the mayor’s assistant, a captain of the police force, and so far three firefighters. They have all been courteous and respectful while they pumped me. I think the rest of you are over reacting. Try having sex with one of them.

  21. Jake Says: Feb 17 11:08 AM

    Mr. Mayor,

I know you are reading these comments. The public is speaking. Perhaps you should instruct the city employees to be nice to us. This is a cause-effect relationship. The public is reacting to the way the city has treated us over the years. Disrespectful, inattentive, rude, obnoxious, and in many times, ignorant.

I wish these were isolated incidences. Alas, they are not. The one difference between the private citizen in an industry that services the public: We must be pleasant to our customers. It’s a shame that the city doesn’t have the same attitude towards those who pay your collective salary.

  22. emptyhandkiller Says: Feb 17 11:30 AM

Hey, Lulabelle!!! I almost got a job with the city maintenance department… is that close enough to pork you? I promise I will be very courteous and respectful as I ram my pork pole deep inside you, unleash my swarm of tadpoles, and impregnate you!

  23. joe Says: Feb 17 12:14 PM

Its about time to LAY OFF the worthless fat in the city

TAXES are too high for these people that take the paycheck for granted and forget that it is a job not a handout.

    RESPECT IS EARNED NOT GIVEN

  24. fat boy Says: Feb 17 12:19 PM

    HEY OBESESE MAYOR

Isn’t it about time to lose some fat around your waste ?
THEN you can let some of brothers go

  25. Jimbo Says: Feb 17 11:34 PM

I think city employees are underpaid, if anything. They should all get raises and free cars and stuff.

  27. jeff Says: Feb 16 8:31 PM

    Very funny.

The PPA & philly towing companies (esp. george smith towing) are some of the most corrupt individuals & organizations I have ever encountered. Scum and parasites of the earth.

  28. Mike d Says: Oct 28 12:11 AM

The PPA is a private company that does nothing but make people miserable. None of ppa’s hard earned money goes to the city to like to maybe fix our fucking horrid streets? It would be one thing if they actually benefited the city, but they are scum and look for the smallest fucking shit to write a ticket for. FUCK YOU PPA!!!

  29. Jay Garcia Says: Oct 28 6:37 PM

Ive been working in Philadelphia city for the last 15 yrs driving around as a service tech…ive never seen giving parking tickets this worst! they dont look around anymore as a courtesy if the vehicles owner is at sight or running towards their car. ( they use to give u a break ..if u catch them halfway writing the ticket…not anymore. They are so burried deep into this fucking computer, they can give it in seconds…and if u drive away..they will even leave ur ticket on the ground…and then few weeks later u get a ticket with penalty. I cant take it anymore with this shithole city! Nutter i hope u dont get reelected. How much more can we take this?? the hard working people of Philly?? who always get rubbed by these shameless gang of thugs.
