Leftovers: Public Defenders Are Evil?• Apparently being a public defender for a cop killer means you can’t be appointed to any governmental position? Really? Aren’t public defenders necessary for, you know, the justice system to function? Oh, whatever, it’s Friday afternoon. [Inquirer] • New Jersey is fighting back against the gypsy moth. [Courier-Post] • The world handshake record holder and the only Atlantic City mayor to never be indicted, Joseph Lazarow, died yesterday at 84. He was the mayor who led AC into the casino era, which really has turned out to have improved the city tenfold. Erhm. [Press of AC] • Meanwhile, the new mayor — essentially appointed by a weird sham nominating process — has demoted the business administrator to assistant business administrator. The business administrator, you may remember, was acting as mayor when former mayor Bob Levy, a fake Green Beret, disappeared.
