New Dollar Coin Ends The Early-Darkness Blues
Ohh, yeah! Starting today, you can get the new dollar coin from the U.S. Mint. This new coin features James Madison, who is most famous for defeating Stephon Marbury one-on-one. As you can tell from the photo, James Madison had something really wrong with the side of his mouth. Bell’s palsy, maybe? Update: There are $10 first lady coins, too! Except Thomas Jefferson was a widower, so he got Lady Liberty. They had an affair during his presidency. |

I love how a new dollar coin debuts every few years, as if putting a new face on it will make anyone use dollar coins.
If the government really wants to implement dollar coin usage, they need to get with manufacturers of mens pants and come up with a pocket design that doesn’t dump all the coins out as soon as you sit down.
friendlynerd or get rid of bills? :P
Chrissmari,
“friendlynerd or get rid of bills?”
I don’t think the coins will fit well in g-strings.
friendlynerd: it’s a conspiracy! the credit companies - in collusion with the government and the Hobo Liberation Army - are trying to ensure that you lose as much money as possible in easily retrievable forms so you’re more inclined to use those high-interest credit cards more, and the HLA can fund their overthrow of canada’s government!
actually, there’s a new dollar coin being released every *month* for the next 4 years or so, they’re going through every president.
Well, the last few times the dollar coin was tried, it had some silly feminist or feminist icon on it. Let’s see what a normal person on the coin will do.
It will never gain acceptance because its size is too similar to a quarter and all vending machines-coin usage business oppose a coin that would cost them millions to recalibrate its usage in their machines and services.
It’s an exercise in futility also the time is coming when inflation will eventually render all US non “hard currency” coinage scrap.
But the size is the primary reason for its non-acceptance unless you could work a pornographic Jackie Kennedy onto the image.
I like the dollar coins.

Dollar coin? What can be purchased for $1 anymore? Where’s the 20 dollar coin?
Freddy:
Your mom!
They should make them with gold foil-wrapped chocolate.
Canada has been using them for years and it’s no problem at all. The excuse used above about ‘restructuring’ is just that.. an excuse. Guess what the US will not fall and burn just because of a Dollar coin. The dollar bill is dead..get over it.
Ha! People are more likely to use $2 bills than $1 coins in the US.
Go Toms!
The dollar bill is not dead. People would rather carry dollar bills around than have dollar coins in their wallets or purses.

that was the funniest thing I’ve read all day.
“normal person.” nice.
More fake worthless fiat money with no value what-so-ever.
Return to the gold standard, eliminate the federal reserve, eliminate the IRS, all will be well.
Or just keep making these fake money-coins.
to the dumbass who thinks the coins are coming oput every few years your a fucking idiot they release a new one every 93 days…schmuck
Oh thanks, joe! I hadn’t noticed because, like most normal Americans, I don’t use them.

Stick to the topic you fucktard!!!
“Ha! People are more likely to use $2 bills than $1 coins in the US.”
And thats why we also have a $2 coin in Canada too. I remember when the Loonie and Toonie came out here and there was some resistance to it.
It’s another part of life and they do have benefits. It’s always nice being surprised when you empty your pockets of change and see about $10 in there as opposed to a lot of $1 bills bulking up your wallet.
An even bigger bonus is to those that empty their change into a container for a future vacation at the end of every day. With $1 and $2 coins, it can add up sooo much quicker.
If I want something at a vending machine, I don’t have to pray for a pristine bill in order for it to take it.
We don’t have to worry about the wear and tear on highly circulated and utilized bills anymore. Our dollar and two dollar coins from the first day they were launched are just as good as the current minting.
It’s just resistance to change I’m hearing; many other countries have adapted to lower denominations of currency as coins instead of bills because it only makes sense.
I real plan behind this is to make the dollar coin will be the new dime.
From Canada also, and the only problem I’ve ever had with the one- and two-dollar coins, is our pathological need to come up with some cute nick-name for them. Before they were even released, all anyone could talk about was “but what will we call them?” Why? We never had a problem saying “two-dollar bill”, so why is there a problem with “two-dollar coin” all of a sudden?
Anyway, I really just came to say, Tim: “It’s just resistance to change I’m hearing.” Ba-hahaha.
lol the pun was unintentional until i re-read the post myself :P. Neil I’m right there with you on the names though. I’m afraid of having to say Foonie or something of that nature.
How about Poonie
If the country actually wants to implement a dollar coin effectively then all vending machines taking dollar bills should be required to take dollar coins too. Also banks should be required to give out coins instead of $1 bills on Fridays (payday!). Then take it from there.
Anyone agree or disagree?
I have one word for you idiots that advocate the dollar coin: Strippers.
How are they gonna hold coins in their garters? And don’t think for a second I’m gonna accept a 500% increase in the cost of having a methed-up high school drop out shake her ass in my face, thats not American man, thats not even Russia!
I have been to a few strip clubs, and some are now issuing house money. They can just print their own in-house bills.
yeah, like all the casinos do.

what ever happened to the land of the free?make one that is usable, we will use it. make it get mixed up with quarters, we lose it
These dollar coins are thicker than quarters, so it’s not THAT hard to tell them apart by touch within your pocket…
As for making a James Madison $1 coin… they’re actually rolling out a $1 coin for every President there has been so far, four a year, in the order in which they were President. Unfortunately, it’ll be 2016 before we get a Ronald Reagan $1 coin… :-|
Incidentally, if you buy a book of stamps from the vending machine at your local post office building, you get $1 coins in your change. Been that way for years. I was getting Susan B Anthony $1 coins well after they’d flopperooneed, then it was sacajawea $1 coins, and most recently it was George Washington $1 coins…
The George Washington $1 coins made more sense, concidering that that’s who’s on the dollar bill… so I was a bit amused when I discovered the United States Mint had decided to make $1 coins for ALL the Presidents.
Thanks to ‘Lawnchair’ from Fark.com:
Every multi-coin acceptor sold in North America in the last 20 years (since Canada went to the loonie) has two DIP switches. One is “accept dollar coins” (Susan B Anthony looks the same as a Sacagawea to an acceptor) and one is “accept Canadian coins”. Cost to convert? About six seconds. Rarely, the throat of the coin slot is a little narrow, so you might have to file that.
It seems some don’t have the Canadian coin setting but one person actively went and looked after this post and sure enough they had the accept US dollar coin switch.
“And don’t think for a second I’m gonna accept a 500% increase in the cost of having a methed-up high school drop out shake her ass in my face…”.. Maybe if you DID increase it to a $5 bill, they would be of better quality. Maybe not so methed-up ;).
That’s actually one of the reasons they MADE the $1 coin about the same size as quarters: so the vending machine makers didn’t have to retool that much to make ‘em work. No need to widen the slot, or whatever, they just had to configure the machine to differintiate the $1 coin from a quarter by its weight and such.
Tim, the methed-up part was a positive attribute, although if I switched to $5s they’d probably switch to coke, which would be better for their teeth I think.
I almost put “they may upgrade to a higher class drug like coke for example”. Glad to see we are on the same page :)
Phil, google ass pennies. lol.
The strippers in Canada take $1 coins. And they take them from between your lips with their breasts.
Even better than a $1 bill :p
Ha! If the government wants us to use dollar coins, they should accept them. Go to USPS, buy stamps with paper currency from the machine, get back–Dollar Coins, Susan B and Sacaj Saca Sacanotgonnaworkhere anymores. Try putting said coin BACK into machine to buy stamps–Nope. Psst–you’re the government, just outlaw the dollar bill.
But, do the strippers in Canada jingle?
Actually, in some parts of the US, the $2 bill has taken off, and those parts are places with high concentrations of strip clubs.
Just don’t try to use that $2 bill at a Taco Bell, that’s a tazin’ bro.
Eliminate the nuts in the executive branch and their cronies as well as the federal reserve, irs and return to the gold standard and things will slowly begin heading towards ‘well’.
They already have pants that don’t spill your change when you sit down. They’re called jeans.
The only way this will work is if you get rid of the dollar bill… Europe did id it… so can we
I don’t even deal with small demonination paper anymore. Either debit or coins now. Maybe an occasional 20, 50, or 100. Remember this folks: a dollar is the same as a quarter was in 1974. Pretty soon it will be down to a dime… It is just silly to carry paper around anymore for such small amounts.
