Penn Students Even Richer Than You Thought
Rents in University City are, well, a bit expensive. The average one-bedroom is $850; get a few buddies and get a house and the rents average around $680. Or maybe they’re not expensive. I don’t know. The under-construction Radian Apartments on Walnut Street between 39th and 40th are supposed to help alleviate some of the housing shortage and keep kids from having to cross 40th Street, lest they enjoy some local culture. And they are, naturally, going to be expensive as well.
This actually includes utilities and Internet, so it’s really not so bad, but, hey, a thousand bucks a month for a college apartment — whee! It is pretty sweet-looking, though. Radian rents listed at over $1,000 per person [Daily Pennsylvanian] |

Ah yes, I remember when a $1000 was a lot to pay for a one bedroom. One of the things I actually miss about living in Philly.
You can get an apartment for $1000 in some parts of Brooklyn, but you have to remove the bullet riddled body of the previous tennant yourself to get that rate, otherwise they paint it and call it “East” Williamsburg, and it costs $2000 a month.
