John Street Booed At Rally Monday™!

Near the end of the ridiculously-attended Rally Monday™ outside City Hall at noon, Phillies PR guy Scott Palmer said the had checked the statistics and it was the largest rally in the history of Dilworth Plaza. While I’m not quite sure they actually keep statistics on things like that, but it was a pretty good crowd. I’m no good at estimating crowds, but let’s say there were thousands of people there.

The highlight of the day was the lusty boo Mayor John Street received when he went up to give some sort of Phillies speech. Sadly, he cut it short. Also booed: Adam Eaton and, to a lesser extent, Rod Barajas. And Bill Giles and David Montgomery by the more knowledgeable, angrier fans.

Jimmy Rollins, who probably locked up the MVP award with his RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth, got chants of M-V-P. Also getting chants (from me) was Phillies superstar Pete LaForest, who will sadly not be on the playoff roster. He hit a lusty .091 for the Fightin’ Phils. LaForest’s full name? Pierre-Luc LaForest.

Other than the great Pierre-Luc M-V-P chant and the Mayor Street boos, there wasn’t much else. All the players were there, all the coaches were there, even Gary Matthews was there. (Chris Wheeler wasn’t, oddly enough. Maybe he didn’t want to be booed.) Bernard Hopkins was there, because it was an event held in the City of Philadelphia.

Harry Kalas, of course, sang “High Hopes,” because that made sense. The opening band for the event was Mr. Greengenes, who you may have heard at Brownies 23 East or Grape Street Pub or one of those places. I wouldn’t be surprised if Grape Street had them on retainer. Actually, if you regularly go to Grape Street, well, ha ha.

There were also cops on Segways. The end.

What about Alycia Lane in a bikini? What she there?

I think Mr. Greengenes may have played bad Better Than Ezra cover at my Elementary School Graduation.

Also, the Phanatic giving the devil horns during Under Pressure (surely a devil horns song if there ever was one….?) may have been worth me wasting my lunch break for.

ah ha hahahahahahahahahahaha. Philly knows a looser, it isn’t the first time Street’s been booed in public.
