I’m just going to quote the lead of this article because I can’t say it any more concisely. Some farmer is pissed at M. Night Shyamalan.
Raymond Gross is no fan of M. Night Shyamalan’s. Though his Plumstead farm is a set in the “The Sixth Sense” director’s latest movie, Gross isn’t happy about it — at all. “I got talked into it because I’m a dumb farmer, and I didn’t know any better,” Gross said. Filming is under way until Monday at the Gross property off Route 611 for “The Happening,” an apocalyptic thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel.
Gross inked the contract allowing the crews to use his 112 acres, but he said he regretted it as soon as he learned the movie is violent.
“I’m a peaceful man,” said Gross, an octogenarian. “It’s not a pleasant movie. The scenes aren’t too pleasant.”
Gross apparently didn’t know that horror movies sometimes deal with adult situations, quite an interesting conundrum. Perhaps if the character in this movie was the priest from Signs the farmer would be happier, but then he’d have to live with having effing Signs filmed on his property.
Cecelia Kukuchka, one of Gross’ daughters, on Wednesday brought a 5-year old Newsweek that featured Shyamalan on its cover, hoping to get an autograph. [...]
Kukuchka said the family has been trying to console Gross over the movie’s content. “We’re just trying to tell him, ‘Daddy, lighten up,’ ” Kukuchka said. “It’s not really happening. It’s a movie.”
You know what? I kinda admire this guy’s moxie. He signs a contact to have a movie filmed on his property, decides he doesn’t like the movie being filmed on his property because there is violence in it and so he complains to the newspaper and calls himself a “dumb farmer.” I think Shyamalan’s next movie should be centered around Raymond Gross.

You should add “inane, violent movies” to the list of American things a couple posts down.
I miss working in the same building as that movie…
no more stories of M night’s dog shitting on people’s rugs
The bigger question is will M. Night Shyamalan ever make a good movie.
Sounds like the farmer isn’t “Wide Awake”, missed the “Signs” and is instead one of the residents from “The Village”.
Mr Gross was never told that the movie to be filmed on his property, was a horror film. That is why he is upset about the filming.
He should’ve asked. Most films nowdays are horror films.
Poor old chap. (The Farmer.) Will the underestimation of Shyamalans excentric work end with the next film? I hope so but i doubt it. At least his “Lady in the Water” for the first time has not been bashed for the use of a plot twist. Maybe it will help that “Happening” sounds more like a mainstream horror or desaster movie. But I guess some people will always manage not to recognize anything good with it, for example finding it plagaristic, since there have been movies like “28 days”, also with many gruesome deads …
