This Is What Happens When You Mess With Our Cars

Ha ha, remember last week when that owl osprey shrew fox puppet giant sloth parked car red-tailed hawk blocked I-95 and made everyone late to work? (Of course you do. it’s still even on the front page.)

Well, apparently the motorists had their revenge, since on Friday the hawk was killed due to injuries sustained during her traffic blockage. Both of her wings were broken, and there was no way to correct the bone fractures.

Doctor Michele Goodman explained the decision:

“It’s just not to fair to subject a young raptor to the life of a chicken,” she said.

I’m waiting, chicken lovers/breeders/whatever, for your angry protests against this gallus-hating doctor.

I’m dumbfounded as to why people would question the widespread outpouring of genuine emotion over the sad death of this hawk.

It’s simple. He never held out for more money. He never did sit-ups on the side of the highway for media attention. He never used steroids to enhance his performance. He never demanded a trade to another major metropolitan artery. He never accused his rivals of hawk-on-hawk crime.

In short, in these days of petulant, self-absorbed children who pass for commuters, this hawk was nothing less than a majestic physical specimen who transcended his perch.

His courage and nobility will live on. Try saying that about any other suburban motorist of this regrettable “me generation.”

Now I’m really glad that it wasn’t Alycia Lane in a bikini sitting in the road. That would’ve really sucked.
