Philadelphia Will Do

And They Say You Never Learn Anything From TV

Buried deep in an article about Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia Charter School — the first all-boys charter school in the state — is this factoid about how at least one boy is preparing about going to a school with same-sex education.

[Jesse] Oyola said he knew about boys’ schools from seeing reruns of the TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, in which Will Smith’s character attended a boys’ school. He added: “But I never would have believed that I would go to a high school with all boys.”

Oyola will be happy to know Boys’ Latin will feature only a classroom and a hallway and plentiful breaking of the fourth wall. Also, Alfonso Ribeiro is a substitute teacher.

I’m pretty sure there were females at their school. Haven’t seen the show in like 5 years though.

there were definitely girls at that school.

The school, Bel-Air Prep, started as an all-boys school, but became a co-ed school during a later season.

I’m glad I’m not geeky like the guy who remembers all that stuff about an old TV show. Otherwise Alycia Lane would never ever want to model her bikini for me.

I can hang my head in shame because I definitely knew that Bel-Air Prep became co-ed the year Ashley started.

I should have checked Wikipedia for Fresh Prince beforehand. Check out what I found: “In Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All, a clown named Moe breaks into a “clown-revised” version of the theme song twice during his testimony in court (’In West Clownadelphia, born and raised…’).”

Yeah, the theme song is definitely stuck in my head now. Thanks, dmac.

Was the clown named Moe played by John Street?
