Feds Bust Idiotic Terrorist Plot
As you may have heard already, the FBI arrested six locals last night for allegedly planning an attack on Fort Dix. Hey, at least they weren’t planning on attacking unarmed people!
Ahh, yes, the six terrorists were planning a full-frontal assault on a fort. Forts are known for their ease of access and lack of security, of course, so this plan to attack the army really had a good chance of working. Four of the alleged Islamic terrorists lived in Cherry Hill, another from Williamstown and one — Serdar Tatar — from Philadelphia. The six wannabe terrorists were going to attack the base due to a recent bad night at Top Dog. Not that they’d be able to, ah, be able to kill many soldiers with rocket-propelled grenades:

I remember people laughing at the fools who attempted to get their deposit back on the truck used in the first bombing of the WTC.
I hope these “idiots” are not a sign of things to come.
the matries some years ago where in what was a secure base camp area 249 deads, are the night they blowup the ammo dump at don tam, are the green zone god only knows how many were killed.
now you got soilders guarding a gate with no bullets in their guns who need permission to fire even if they have bullets in their gun. such a job should be left to professional security companies.
Actually, it may not be as idiotic as you seem to think.
Back when I was a Basic Trainee at Fort Dix (some 30 yrs ago), it was an “open post”. That meant that while there were guards at the gates, checking vehicular traffic, there was no perimeter fence. Anybody could walk right on or off the post and never get challenged. I don’t know if that’s been changed.
Assuming these guys could get on the post, they WOULD be targeting unarmed people. Soldiers on base generally do NOT carry any weapons. A couple scum bags with AK-47s really could cause a lot of casualties.
For what it’s worth…
Quite stupid I agree but Fort Dix is an open base with a public road running through the middle of it….
Wow ground Pounder that was strange. Same point a minute apart
I remember standing at the main gate to Fort Lewis, WA as the gate guard and wandering who was the imbecile that required me to tape up magazines. At best it took me a minute or so to open an ammo pouch on Load Bearing Vest (LBV), pull out magazine, remove the tape, insert magazine into M 16, and lock-n-load. Then again that was back in summer of 2001, maybe things changed since 9-11, but I doubt that.
these things are already happening all over america. i don’t know how anyone can be as complacit to say that they how these things are not a sign of things to come.america in general has become a brandy bunch melting pot of itself. people comsumed with their own and no concern for the whole. our memories are short indeed.we don’t realize are just don’t want to realize that many people in this world consider america their enemy.
hurting america means hurting its people.that is the sign of the things that are happening, they are not beginning they have happened are some are being stopped in the act. yet the brandy bunch don’t care much one way are the other peace.
Jerz - I guess great minds think alike, and in synch.
I was always under the impression soldiers carried weapons if the base was ‘open’, but I am apparently wrong. My bad.
Is it really that easy to get into the fort, though? That seems nonsensical.
“A successful attack on Fort Dix is highly unlikely. Armed soldiers guard every gate, whose approaches have curbs or barriers that force traffic to slowly snake as they get near. ”
I’d think an ‘open base’ wouldn’t have gates, nor curbs and barriers. Not really practical, and it’d hold up traffic on that public road that goes through it.
Oh, and…
“Each gate also has additional security measures that are far from obvious. “We do not publicize this,” she said.”
That’s along the lines of ‘Getting your head bown off by an ‘unarmed civilian’ with a SAW and kevlar…
Whats a brandy bunch?
About ten years ago, I went to a military base in Germany to watch a movie at the theater. The gate guard turned me away so I walked around the corner to a parking lot that was not guarded, walked right in and watched my movie. I never saw anyone with guns. I’m sure it wouldn’t take long for the guns to appear, however.
Does anyone still honestly think that keeping our troops in Iraq is doing anything to stop this or prevent something worse?
I think these guys might watch a little too much Jack Bauer on “24″.
Does anyone still honestly think that keeping our troops in Iraq is doing anything to stop this or prevent something worse?
The problem is, I think, that lots of these assholes are just that, assholes… they say things and make threats and are nothing but a waste of time… but then there are those who are actually crazy enough to do stuff. So the trouble is being able to tell the A from the B. Unfortunately, in this great country, everybody has rights… including assholes. You can’t just round up all the people of Islamic backgrounds and interrogate them, jail them, or kill them. And sending them back to their homeland is just kind of like terrorist recycling. If it were China they’d simply shoot anyone who was suspect. I am not saying this is better… but it sure is more effective.
Bases are not impossible to enter… even when they are closed. Family members who have an ID can still get on… there are stupid, simple and corruptable people everywhere with whacky connections. In addition, these guys were not looking to survive the attack AND if that is the case a lot more is possible than you think.
Just be happy that these guys were not our folks in uniform. There is the case of that 101st Airborne Sgt who attacked his own people in Afghanistan. http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/03/24/101.attack.ap/
As well as those Iranians who made it onto the U.S. base in Iraq kidnapping and killing several of our soldiers. Both of these occured in hot zones with soldiers who have permission to shoot. Here in the States much easier.
We got VERY lucky AND we had some good folks in law enforcement working all the right angles.
I suppose things have changed but back when I was an alert B-52 pilot, anyone posing as a pizza delivery guy, or an actual pretty woman saying she wanted to go to the officers club, could get on our base. Once on the base they could go anywhere they wanted (except the weapons storage area and alet facility), even right up to the alert facility gate.
The fact is that many people have to enter and leave a military base everyday. Many of those people aren’t in the military and don’t carry a military ID. We had moving companies, copier repair guys, builders, delieveries to the BX, etc. My point isn’t that terrorists should try to target military bases, but rather that in a relatively free country like ours, there will never be any practical way to totally defend against such an attack, not even on a military base.
Frankly it shows a certain respect for the “rules of war” that they were targeting a military target rather than a busy street or shopping mall. THe only way we will ever dramatically reduce our potential for terrorist attack is to address the reasons why terrorists would want to attack us in the first place. Sound bites like what we get from the present administration saying, “evil doers” or “enemies of freedom” simply ignore the realities.
I think that the notion of using deadly force to achieve ones political means is completely wrong, but there are obviously forces on both side of the present terrorist/war on terror conflict that feel that both military and civilian casualties are acceptable. I can’t think of a single person I have spoken to from the middle east who does not believe that there is at least some legitimate reason why people from there are angry at the west. Until we at least attempt to deal with the underlying causes for this anger we are doomed to an unending series of attacks back and forth.
People. Wake up! Nobody is this dumb. Clearly, this is not real. Only in America would we assume “the enemy” so dumb to attempt this ludicrous ‘for sale’ news plot. This story ranks right there beside the beautiful acreage in the Everglades I’m going to sell you to build your dream home on!
GET A CLUE AMERICA! You’re being duped and duped and duped.
You don’t need to be on the base to hurt folks on the base.
You just need to get within 2 miles of it.
From there you can 16-30 rounds into the base.
Then they can pack up put the mortar in the trunk of a car and leave the area before anyone can respond.
The facts just don’t add up…but then they haven’t since 9-11, either. Wake up America!
How incredibly, well, stupid to think that stupid people cannot kill well. This feels strongly like the conjured sentiment necessary to avoid giving credit to domestic anti-terrorist efforts.
For what its worth, within the last year I had reason to travel onto a Army National Guard base multiple times - it would have been extremely easy to bring weapons onto base. Getting a travel permit was trivial, and out of the 6 or so times I was there never once did my vehicle, or anyone else that I saw, get searched.
And no, military personnel walking around base do not carry weapons. Unless you happen to be on guard duty, but they typically aren’t issued any ammo unless they’re guarding something vital to national security. There’s strict rules for the use of deadly force, so there’s no need for them to be armed.
We can probably expect more attacks such as this one…and we deserve exactly what we get. Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9-11, yet we blindly followed the Bush idiocracy into murdering, maiming, raping and abusing innocent Iraqis. Operation Freedom…what hogwash! We are breeding another generation of damaged, warped, crippled veterans who will fail to adjust to civilian life or understand what this corrupt, hypocritical nation asked of them. Ironically, the Pentagon and war generals never wanted this war because they knew the price and the consequences. What a sad fate awaits our once proud nation.
Shesh.. should have realized this story would bring the stark raving nutcases out of the woodwork. “It’s a lie! A conspiracy by our government! Bush did it! Halliburton!!”
You guys really need to get some serious professional treatment with this sickness of yours, or you’ll end up being the next story we read like this.
We should do what we did in WW2,tell all the muslims in this country, if they want freedom come with us. Then put them all in camps and make sure they check out before releasing them back into the public. It not inhumane, its a reasonable measure to ensure our safety!

We should do the same with Communists aka Liberals!
I did basic there, noone (MP’s and guard duty aside) was allowed weapons on base. Walking into the base was extreemly easy.
Good thing we are fighting them over there so that we do not have to worry about them hitting us over here….Oh wait. We can’t even deal with the natural disasters in this country let alone a terrorist attacks.

OK, what these guys were allegedly planning is bad but should it really be called terrorism? It sounds like they were planning what could be described as a commando attack against a military target. This might be seen by many of us as unjustified and vicious, but I question whether the word “terrorism” fits.
I think it is important that we reserve the word “terrorism” for its original meaning, which is, more or less, “politically motivated attacks that target civilians” (generally working off of the idea that such attacks will inspire terror in many other civilians who may see themselves as potential targets).
I’ve been seeing the word “terrorism” abused terribly. For example, when insurgents in Iraq lob a rocket into one of our bases, or set of an IED when our soldiers are passing, that should not be called “terrorism”, regardless whether the people doing it are bad people acting in a bad cause. If we call anyone who attacks us in any way a “terrorist”, we damage our own ability to communicate or think clearly about the world and people in the world who are hostile to us. We need to understand the world better, not worse, and speak clearly when we do.
OK, how about this: I was stationed at Otis AFB, MA during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and I had charge of a guard detail near the water tower. Ever try guarding a water tower with an unloaded M1 carbine? The carbines were all shot-loose and we had no ammo! I asked my C.O.if we were supposed to throw the damned things at a target, and I got a smart-ass answer!
Ok, a few mentally ill or retarded individualls give a tape of their “terrorist threats” to someone they don’t know, to be converted to dvd.
Oh, it is about time for another fake terrorist plot to surface to boost public opinion of Fatherland Security. Get a clue. This story makes as much sense as the official 9-11 fairy tale.
A note to Fatherland Security: Only about 15% of the public still buys your load of crap. Quit hiring 3rd graders to write your propaganda.
||he soldiers perform “a 100 percent identification check” and do random vehicle searches, Nesbit said.||
This would of course prevent any kind of attack with AK-47s! Identification checks, lawyers, diversity training - these are the liberal weapons to fight the terrorists. Subpoena them! File a complain with the court in Hague. And when they in prison, don’t forget to make sure their toilet is facing the right part of the World!
