N.J. Woman Even Tougher Than David Murphy

When I heard Action News‘ David Murphy separated his shoulder but continued to play in a charity softball game and then drove himself to the hospital, I thought I’d found the winner for toughest person in the area.

Forget that. Check out 47-year-old Annette Coletta from New Jersey. The nurse at Upper Township Middle School was following buses on a trip to the Camden Aquarium — I refuse to call it the Adventure Aquarium — when a metal rod went through her windshield and hit her in the eye. Obviously, a very serious injury, and I don’t even think I can imagine that much pain. Then here’s what happened:

The school’s superintendent says even in all that pain, Colletta’s main concern was getting the students their medication.

“Because of her efforts, even in that condition, all of our students received the medical attention that they needed, just as a daily basis. So again, it’s just a testament to her. She’s a very special person.”

After the incident, Coletta was able to pull over to the side of the road and call 911.

Holy shit! Those wimpy kids on like 45 meds each could learn something from this nurse. I bet at the hospital she wouldn’t even take any morphine.
