Michael Nutter Destroys City Hall In Monty Pythonesque Fashion, Prevents Hurricane Schwartz From Securing No-Bid Contract

I really can’t say how much I love this ad. Not only does it have Philly’s inspector general personally creeping up on corrupt employees in the middle of the night, it also reveals no-bid contracts are apparently given out in shady elevator deals. Oh, and, yes, it features the destruction of City Hall by either God or a giant, leading to the deaths of lots of people who apparently work in the building’s tower for some reason.

Oh, and it does pack a lot of information into 30 seconds, but whatever, who cares about that.

More awesome ads after the jump.

I’m not quite sure what the smooth jazz in the background is for, but I do dig it. Otherwise, it might as well be a driving instruction video. Apparently after Jon Corzine’s accident — and Ed Rendell’s previous problems with speeding — citizens want a mayor who drives safely. As you can tell from this video, Brady appears to be an above-average driver, even though his one hand slips a little off the wheel when turning. Keep those hands at 10 and 2, Bob!

Also, it’s nice to see the cameraman from COPS getting some extra work.

You know, I really like Dwight Evans’ voice. (I guess that’s why I feel he’s the best public speaker of the bunch.) What I also like in this ad is the insinuation the other candidates have never taken action in their lives, and Dwight being attacked by a group of angry kids. Or maybe they’re hugging him. Either way, he sort of plays the role usually held by a giant mascot.

Hey, it’s Bill Clinton! I like him! And he likes Fattah! Which means… I like Fattah! I guess this is the point of the ad. Again, Fattah has the awesome music, way better than in Brady’s. (This is more neo-soul, while Brady had like jazz lite. C’mon, Bob, you probably listened to Motown growing up, right? Get some of that!) I only wish the ad also features Shaft.)

I just really love the idea of bashing candidates for attack ads by not refuting evidence, but attacking attack ads in general. It’s novel, I must admit.

  1. A Week in Phila Says: May 1 2:38 PM

This morning, the Mrs. pointed out how Brady intends to fight for the safety of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods from the comfort and safety of his car.

you know, I wasn’t planning on voting for Nutter, but that ad may have done the trick.
    wtf is happening to me?

also, judging from the amount of tags you’ve applied to this post, you think you may be suffering from tag inflation? How do you even keep track of all them???

That said, I can’t wait until you’ve had a few more years under your belt and we can all look back on all your posts that touch on the subject of “Muzak” or “Safe Driving.”

That Brady ad always reminds me of Taxicab Confessions.

Good thing Bob’s “proctectin’ da people” around Broad and Locust! Think they would have felt safe filming this scene from Collateral at 4th and Indiana, around, say, midnight?

BTW, I think the music is lifted right from Leaving Las Vegas…..
