Phillies To Celebrate Janitors For Jackie Robinson

Jackie Robinson Day at Citizens Bank Park was supposed to be held April 15, the day Robinson broke into the majors with the Brooklyn Dodgers 60 years ago. The game was rained out — perhaps retribution for how the Phillies treated Robinson 60 years ago — and rescheduled for tonight.

And who are the Phillies honoring tonight? Jackie Robinson himself is a little overdone, I suppose, so the who are the Phils to honor? Robinson’s Dodgers teammates? Branch Rickey? A local civil rights leader from the 1940s? Those final five members of the Negro League Philadelphia Stars?

Puh-leeze.

Phillies honor Team Clean at Jackie Robinson Tribute

In honor of Jackie Robinson, the Phillies are recognizing select individuals who embody his character as they celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s Debut in the Major Leagues.

The tribute, originally scheduled for last Sunday, April 15th but postponed due to inclement weather, will take place this Monday, April 23rd at the Phillies vs. Houston Astros game.

“Attributes such as proactive leadership, commitment to sound business practices, quality product, efficiency, reliability and accountability are indicative of the qualities found in our Jackie Robinson “MVDBP” (Most Valuable Diverse Business Partner) Award recipients,” said Michael R. Stiles, Senior VP for Administration and Operations for Citizens Bank Park.

Team Clean began cleaning for the Phillies since the late 1980’s and continues to do so to date.

“The quality service provided by Team Clean has been an integral part of our success. Donna’s outstanding customer service and her team’s cleaning excellence are why we continue to contract Team Clean for nearly 20 years,” said Bram Reynolds, Facilities Operations Manager, Global Spectrum @ Citizens Bank Park. Reynolds nominated Team Clean for this 1st annual award.

Allie has grown what started as a one-woman residential cleaning service into a $14.6 million commercial cleaning company with 450 employees.
